I don't know anyone whose mom brings them food to their regular job. He seemed like a good, normal kid, not neglected by his fam, had money, so maybe he just ultimately wanted to go somewhere like Scottsdale where he could raise an even more normal family. When he was facing those years, that was like his final chance at normal family life, away from the Barksdales. He "just wanted to breath like normal people"
