Not really. CDs are a no go but I have plenty of games on DVD the PS5 can at least recognize that I still won’t be able to play even though the capacity to recognize them is there even after they’re made available on the new service. Meanwhile on Xbox you can stick any old game in the system and as long as the game is backwards compatible you don’t need a game pass subscription to play it.

How about letting me send in my physical games to trade them for a digital license since they didn’t have the foresight to allow the PS5 to read CDs? Probably not. It’s a problem they created and their solution it for customers to just pay more.

It isn't a problem. You bought a game for PS1 and we're able to play it on PS1. It's just a personal issue that you have.

Well technically, if you amassed a huge library of digital PS1/PSP games from the PS3 era, they will too be available to download and play free of charge regardless of sub status. That's not disc BC but going from what people initially assumed, we'd be having to pay a sub JUST to play an old game which is what I'm getting at.



Just play old games on Xbox since that's what players over there seem to be doing most of the time anyway.

So if I own digital games from the ps1 collection I can play those on the ps5 when this subscription drops?

Edit: never mind you can only play the games you have WHEN they are released through the the sub. Smh that’s lame af. Why not just make your old game collection cross platform, and by that I mean those ps1 classics. I just want to be able to play my jrpgs. Anyway this is a good sub for people who don’t own a lot of games, imo game pass is better for a gamer like me because they drop indie games on their service. I pretty much own most ps4 and 5 games on that list. I’ll just stick to the basic service

They are being made cross platform, they just seem like they'll be released in increments, similar to how old games on Xbox weren't all available day 1, games took months/years to release until today.

as someone who didn't have Xbox one gamepass is the better offering for me personally since i played all the games on this one when they came out

Exactly. For someone new to the Sony ecosystem this is great. For a sucker like me who buys everything right away lol it's less valuable right now until that list fleshes out. People joke about playing old games but I'd love to dive into the PSX JRPG collection that I never played growing up without an emulator. I'll happily pay more monthly to have access to that catalog
