I don't think Ellerbe should be criticized too harshly though. There's some understandable backlash from casuals due to Floyd's recent matches being so defensively genius, yet boring to many. Myself personally, I enjoyed the Pac/May fight, but I can understand why some folks felt cheated afterwards. I felt cheated with the Canelo/May fight to be honest. They didn't bang until like 2am in the morning where I'm at, but the Pac/May fight might have damaged Floyd's brand to some degree. Then taking into consideration his opponent this time around. It's difficult to sell a narrative when his opponent hasn't done anything memorable in recent years other than look like a martian from the X Files. Those swollen eyes are perhaps the most memorable thing about him and his career.
Something else too, Floyd and crew are headed towards their sunset. I get the feeling they're not really concerned about the numbers being low this time around. Myself personally, I don't think this does 800,000, might hover around the low 700's, but time will tell. Still, they made their money, and this fight is just to fulfill the contract. They're riding off into the sunset. Wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be true that he's really calling it a wrap after this.
