I don't think Ellerbe should be criticized too harshly though. There's some understandable backlash from casuals due to Floyd's recent matches being so defensively genius, yet boring to many. Myself personally, I enjoyed the Pac/May fight, but I can understand why some folks felt cheated afterwards. I felt cheated with the Canelo/May fight to be honest. They didn't bang until like 2am in the morning where I'm at, but the Pac/May fight might have damaged Floyd's brand to some degree. Then taking into consideration his opponent this time around. It's difficult to sell a narrative when his opponent hasn't done anything memorable in recent years other than look like a martian from the X Files. Those swollen eyes are perhaps the most memorable thing about him and his career.

Something else too, Floyd and crew are headed towards their sunset. I get the feeling they're not really concerned about the numbers being low this time around. Myself personally, I don't think this does 800,000, might hover around the low 700's, but time will tell. Still, they made their money, and this fight is just to fulfill the contract. They're riding off into the sunset. Wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be true that he's really calling it a wrap after this.

I know it's a wrap based on that Fight Hype interview and how he's talking about Roger going missing randomly, being senile, not eating or taking care of himself. Dude was literally talking about retiring from boxing at the arena backstage before the Pacquiao fight while the undercards were taking place. Dude is just too disciplined and dedicated to go out on some Andre 3000 at Coachella shyt (Andre 3000 is clearly over music, performing, rap and doesn't care anymore).

They're pretty much going to have to offer Floyd 100 million to come back for his 50th.......Something he just can't turn down.

I'm trying to get myself hype for a Floyd fight. Never thought that would happen in my life. So, I'm late in reading and watching shyt. I came across this interview with Virgil Hunter. This nikka is already in Sept. 13 cut my check mode with this interview. For a man that is very articulate about the sweet science, he is up in here grasping for shyt to say to make this sound remotely interesting.

:wow: it was over before it even began

Mayweather-Berto Not Yet Sellout, Ellerbe Mum on Numbers

Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s last fight obliterated box office records. That’s no surprise, given that Mayweather’s last fight was a highly anticipated and long awaited collision with Manny Pacquiao. His other recent bouts have also been big box office hits — including the Pacquiao fight, he holds five of the top six of Nevada’s largest grossing boxing gates and has nine spots within the Top 20.

Mayweather’s next fight isn’t akin to the Pacquiao bout. He faces Andre Berto, a brave and entertaining former welterweight titleholder but not anyone who is assumed as posing much of a threat. The bout has been maligned, but it is also being marketed on the announcement that it will be Mayweather’s final fight before he retires, and the presumption that people will believe that to be true.

With 11 days to go until Mayweather-Berto, tickets are still available, and Mayweather Promotions executive Leonard Ellerbe wouldn’t even delve into how many (or how few) are left.

“We still have tickets on sale at the MGM now,” Ellerbe said on a Sept. 1 media conference call featuring Berto. “Tickets are prices at 150, 300, 500, 750, 1,000 and 1,500.”

Those are the same ticket pricing levels that were initially announced, indicating that there are at least some available at all levels. Tickets went on sale on Aug. 7.

All of which raised the question: Approximately how many tickets are left? One reporter asked, and Ellerbe demurred.

“I haven’t read my report today,” Ellerbe said. “I don’t see why that would be any concern about how many tickets are sold.”
