I mean don't get me wrong it's weird that the narrator just jumped to that conclusion but
it's pretty plausible
It's not really weird that he thought that. Let me explain.
After every new episode of "Breaking Bad" AMC posts a 1-2 hour Insider Podcast. The writers, actors, editors, directors, etc. sit around and discuss the new episode.
Anyway, after "Hermanos", the ep that shows Gus's flashback, editor Kelley Dixon said "I kinda thought Gus was gay the way he was worried about the other guy".
Vince Gilligan
"nah, he's not gay, that's his best friend, his brother".
So this editor, who doesn't even write for the show started the rumor. 5 minutes later "GUS IS A fakkit LOL!!!!" was all over the internet. Including SOHH....there was
maaaaad debates on SOHH that week.
Interviewers would ask Giancarlo Esposito (Gus) "how's it feel to play such a strong gay character?" and he
"Gus ain't gay....if he was gay the script would've said something".
But Vince Gilligan kept it more politically correct when he got asked and said
"I guess it's open to interpretation". But what could he say at that point? Gay people were probably
that such a bad ass character was potentially gay.
