Before the pandemic & 2021 inflation, 99 Cents Only Store was easily the best dollar store. They always had great overstock name brands items from regular grocery stores & etc. being sold for only $1. After inflation when they rose prices, the store was still worth shopping at but it wasn't special enough anymore that I'd recommend it over other dollar & discount stores.

Last time I went to the 99 cents store a majority of the items in the store were more than 99 cents.

When I lived in long Beach As a kid, there was a 99 cent store at the end of the block. I used to eat at the times. Big ass bags of pizza combos 2 for a dollar? Damn
