I think a live action akira would be ridiculously hard to pull off and it being well received would be a pipe dream. Think about it

What are akira (anime movie)'s flaws? What are its strengths?

The movies main challenge was that they had to adapt a full manga series which is fairly long into a 2 hour experience. People may not catch everything that happens in 1 sit through since they had to keep things trucking along. A lot of manga stuff had to be cut. They cant do what a lot of movie adaptations do and cover 1 manga arc as it wouldn't work in akira. Live action wont help this since the same time to work with

What made the animated movie big was the presentation value, animation quality, and themes of the movie were groundbreaking at the time and greatly impacted anime after it. A retelling could easily mess up the themes and the other strengths would also be gone.
TBH, The Alita movie could run into the same problem just because Alita as a manga is about as long as Akira, fortunately, a lot of Alita is episodic which means it's easier to edit and put into movie form and I've heard that there's supposed to be a sequel.

Just came back from an advanced screening.
Hopefully it does well so part 2 comes out
The film has its issues but it a entertainng decent action film.
There's definitely an uncanny valley issue that crops up in some scenes though

They've set it up for a sequel and there are some pacing issues

Rotten Tomatoes ain't shyt for this. Those so-called "harsh" reviews got the movie split down the middle. They really trying to sell the idea that if you don't get 90% or higher, your movie is automatic trash.:francis:

That's why I'm kind of going out my way to bump this thread. This is a decent entertaining movie and although I doubt it will be a blockbuster I'm hoping it does well enough to get a sequel as I imagine the sequel will eliminate the issue that I felt were present in this film
