Don't think he wasn't inaccurate. I always thought Ariza was one of the more genuine people in Manny's corner as well as Michael Moorer who was in Pacquiao's corner vs Hatton/Cotto and actually teaching Manny some defense. I remember watching those 24/7 episodes and out of nowhere Koncz and Roach started to grill Ariza which I thought was kind of awkward considering how great Manny started to look.

Here's the thing, Freddie Roach is a strong trainer when it comes to teaching his boxers how to punch. Dude got exposed as a trainer and has been exposed in the past.

When Manny was in the pocket vs Floyd is when he had the most success, I'll even say that's the most uncomfortable I've ever seen Floyd in the pocket. Even Floyd said he was surprised how effective Manny is in the pocket. But when Floyd switched it up and found that using footwork was better for this instance, Manny and his corner should have told him to start cutting off the ring and force Floyd to try and find another answer. But we saw what happened, Manny just ended up trying to chase Mayweather. Any decent trainer would have prepared for Floyd to start running and work on technique to start cutting off the ring.

They honestly piggy-backed off of Manny's name and natural talent for the last 6 years. Manny could've been a beast with a different trainer the second half of his career.
Manny did try to cut the ring off bruh. I even commented that it was the only thing he did well... BUT it made no difference.. manny couldn't move and punch, he couldn't stop the check hook that Floyd used to spin off the ropes. He couldn't get the range to jab or throw a straight without getting caught. He didn't go to the body or work out the clinch,. He was just outclassed.. Easily

But a lot of that is a testament to Freddie's lack of training. I agree, Freddie can teach you how to punch but that's it really.

I agree also, cutting off the ring needs to include an effective attack afterward like what the great pressure fighters do. So in essence he did cut off the ring, but like you said barely did anything after he did, which is credit to Floyd giving him different looks. Pressure fighters destroy movement when they are able to impose their will on the boxer to execute their plan. If Pacquiao did so then that would've been a much better fight. How many times have we seen Mayweather check hook and slip or bend at the waist numerous times in a row on the ropes before getting out of harm's way? Dude does it nearly every fight, but just like past fighters Manny threw uppercuts and overhands that others fighters threw similarly and missed. If Freddie Roach was some world class trainer he would've tried to implement a plan to discourage that.

But I think the best thing Pacquiao did was fight from the pocket, here's Mayweather take of it:

“[Pacquiao] definitely had his moments in the fight. As long as I moved on the outside, I was able to stay away from those. He’s a really smart fighter. Only when he stayed in the pocket was he able to do what he needed to do.”

Mayweather was asked about his father, who appeared to be quite animated in the corner.

“My dad wanted me to do more, but I had to take my time. Because Manny Pacquiao is a competitor, and he’s extremely dangerous.”

That's what makes Mayweather such a great fighter is his adaptability, but he can only be that effective because he's a complete fighter. I even remember the Castillo fight when he got aggressive in the final rounds and fought flat footed in a phone booth with exchanges that he initiated. If it came to that I'm almost certain he would've done the same this fight. But he found something that worked early and stuck with it because Pacquiao and Roach showed they didn't have him scouted nearly enough. Which like we've said is because maybe Roach really doesn't know how to do it.

I think there were little kernels of truth in what he said, I do think at times he let his emotions get the best of him which clouded his judgments and affected the way he picked his words, but he did say some very true things. it makes you wonder how far Manny could go if he had a more versatile coaching staff and picked some thing up along the way. Roach isnt a great defensive wizard or a great defensive coach, I wonder what would have happened if Manny had picked up a better defense or a better counter punching game..but ehh its to late now :manny:

Freddie is fukked up. He's usually more vocal in the corner. I'm not even sure if he could properly or words together. I wish the best for him tho.

If Roach really loved Manny, he'd bring somebody in to the physical stuff with Manny and take a step back as the head trainer. He could still be there to oversee shyt, but it's obvious he doesn't have the physical capacity to push Manny in training.
