when they had a week where they put up all their albums (besides APOS) for 'pay what you want'/free on bandcamp, i was surprised. i mean i copped and gave a few bucks to support, but it seems like they haven't made much money outside touring off these albums

This album is in my top 3 of the decade. So amazing. The Gates had me shook the first time I heard it.

I agree. It's one on my "Desert Island" albums. I personally think it's a flawless album. I can honestly say I have no idea how anyone that considers themselves a FAN of Hip Hop can NOT like this album. It's that good in my eyes.

Big Mel, I've seen you say in the past that you didn't like CL, and that's shocking to me, especially with this album, as I find myself agreeing with you on numerous occasions. shyt is just a beautiful composition. It's a production masterpiece, and while the lyrics aren't mind blowing they compliment the production perfectly. It is what it is though...that's what makes each one of us unique. No matter how much you may agree with someone, there's always something that differs. Usually around these parts it gets you labeled as a "hater" but we know better. :shake:

And yes, The Gates is ridiculously sick, and on that topic, Chico & The Man has reached Detox status for me. So sad, as Tonedeff is disgusting on the mic, and him and Kno are a match made in Heaven.

Also, Since When and Nothing to Give are GREAT in concert. If you're a fan, I definitely recommend catching them live. They put on a great show.

Yeah, Kno was in a different place when he did that. They got screwed in their first deal, that ended after this album was released. IIRC, they didn't see a dime from this album. Then, there were sample issues I believe, and they still don't own the rights to the album, so don't bother buying it in any stores, or off iTunes/Amazon. They won't see anything from it.

They acquired the rights to the other 2 (Will Rap For Food & Southernunderground) as well as Sloppy Seconds, Vol. 2 (still not sure about Vol. 1). So buying them, and everything else is cool. They're one of the rappers/groups that will have my automatic support as long as they release something. Same with shows...whenever they come around here I go.

I never liked Bubba Sparxxx either. That album he did with Timbaland that everyone's calls a slept on classic made me want to shove an ice pick in my ear.

That nor Cunninlynguists sound at all how hip hop is supposed to sound in my head. And I know how hip hop shoud sound. That's the best way I can describe it. I'm not mad if you like it. I actually think I liked some of Witchdoctors second album and if memory serves one of the black dudes was making beats on that.

:obama: guess ill have to cop it

It's definitely worth the read, dude is hilarious in print and has some great anecdotes in there. Brought me back to the days of Louis Logic writing for Elemental.

@Big Mel, surprised that you didn't like that album, I actually feel the exact opposite of you towards Little Brother. I guess it was something different/refreshing when it dropped compared to what was around.

I'm a huge CL fan, besides this album you could make a similar thread for every other album they've done. Only thing is, Kno's mic presence is far from impressive, rather see him behind the boards. When Chico and the Man drops (and it will, unlike detox), I hope it reaches a bigger audience that they reached thus far.

I loved Little Brother and all things Justus League back then. That's why I tried to mess with Cunninlynguists and was repulsed.

Just listened to this album for the first time in a couple years, and damn :wow:

Still as classic as ever - the production, execution of the concept, the overall cohesiveness of the album.:ohhh:

Anyone know when Strange Journey Vol 3 is supposed to be dropping?

September/October, along with Natti's solo album. Maybe this month Kno's project with Anna Wise and a few other singers drops.
