"Ballin' since my brother used to hustle out the Vons
Couple hundred thousand up, he took a shovel to the lawn
No exaggeration for the content of my songs
When he went to dig it up, shyt, a hundred somethin' gone
Molded, you can ask moms
Had to plug in blow dryers for the ones we could wash"

:wow: that description

As far as 'The Marathon Series' goes...

Victory Lap > The Marathon Continues > The Marathon > Xtra Laps

I think nikkas forget some of the filler on the original Marathon and the lack of original beats quantity wise compared to the other projects. And only reason Xtra Laps ain't higher is because it's too short. Marathon gave us Love, Keys 2 The City, Blue Laces, One Take 3, & Bigger Than Life but that shyt was like 19 songs strong and I can't say some of those others really get that much play from me besides Mac 11 On The Dresser & 7 Days A Week. We ain't even gon' talk about Mailbox Money or Crenshaw cuz that might leave The Marathon in 4th or 5th on my list.

I dropped my headphones when I first heard it.

Those are some lyrics that go from 100 to 1000 when you know the person rapping is no lying rapper.

Dude you crazy, TMC has the most filler imo, but Nip was sharp lyrically on that. Marathon reign supreme because of the mindset and content. He was going through a life transition and you can hear it in the songs. Dude was dealing with real conflict over how to move as a real crip & music artist at the same time. Some nikkas was trying to drag him down, leech, and make him feel some type of way about doing music instead of bangin. You can feel the emotion in the verses. That's why most people champion that tape until this day, because the feel/vibe he was in can't be manufactured.

That beat just didnt need to be slowed down bro. It sound annoying as hell how they freaked it. Almost akin to nails on a chalkboard. shyt is like screwed without being screwed. Its a throwaway and he done previwed like 5 better tracks that would fit the album better on his Instagram alone.

Better get a damn Nipsey: The Lost Tapes :feedme:

Breh from 2:40 to 3:15 Nip was floating on that track. The spit was too potent, makes the track undeniable

"... Only thing we knew fasho was to bang the set" then boom the nikka started skating on that shyt.

Vibe and respecting a nikkas's mind shift is one thing. The music, another lol. I love The Marathon for all of the reasons you mentioned, and I actually struggled with who had the most filler between it and TMC but I ran em both back just to be sure. I wish he would've smashed the two together and made some shyt on steroids. Add Forever on Some Fly shyt, 10 Toes, Rose Clique and a few others from TMC to The Marathon in place of some other tracks, and that shyt would be raw. If we are judging by influence, impact, and moments of growth, obviously The Marathon > cuz the transition for Bullets Aint Got No Name to The Marathon vs The Marathon to TMC is a no brainer. Just half the tracks get no play in the whip lol.

I'm a have to go run that back then cuz after the first listen, it's been an auto skip for me, and I'm lightweight debating on taking the shyt off and adding one of the loosies on there for real. I don't never doubt Nipsey's flow or content though. He keep it pretty consistent bar wise for what his lane is. It's always the production that will make it or break it for me and he usually got a decent ear on the shyt but nobody batting 100.

Back in this bytch like I never left
Stand for some shyt that you never rep
Passing through stages in life
Through the ups and the downs like it's all just another test
Live by the rules like a fukkin' ref
I got respect in a hundred sets
Too many chains, need another chest
Playin' no games if it wasn't chess
Cut from that cloth that you couldn't stretch
Cut from that circle you couldn't test

Judge a young nikka by they address
Left us no option, what they expect?
Only thing we knew for sure was to bang the set
fukk livin' basic, I'm takin' risks
fukk what they sayin', I'm sayin' this
Don't waste your time, it don't make you rich
It don't mean nothin' so fukk 'em, let's make a grip
Double up, triple up, make assist
Ballin' so hard, you could play your bytch
Lead to the lake, if they wanna fish
Make sure them nikkas around you stick to the script
This should be written in stone
You should come visit my zone
Don't take my word, double check all of my flows
Ask 'em how Hussle got on, but fukk what you owe
This is for who walked down that road
Sold everything, but they soul
Straight off the curb, real nikkas rich as you nerds
Addressed to whom it may concern

"Blue Laces 2" third verse is easily one of the rawest, and most simply powerful verses I have heard in a while.....Very expressive and emotional, while sounding natural and un forced.

Really have to give Nipsey credit here, for crafting an album that while backed by a major, 10 years deep in his career, and has NO trace of a pandering commercial track, no Chris Brown feature, or Migos verse, he kept it all very authentic. A lot of rappers from an earlier era would have benefited from this approach. Nipsey can probably get a feature or hook from anyone in the game, but chose not to, says he's an artist and person with integrity.
