This album “roll out” shyt is wack. He could’ve dropped the shyt along with rap nikkas and I bet he sell the same amount of records as he will next month. Just get on with the shyt already...

Tired of this....
Thirsty ass nikka desperate for this shyt....Nipsey got his fans out here sounding like knocks :mjlol:

Honestly Nipsey been a fav of mine for a long time, and I still bump many of his mixtapes on the regular but im not really too hyped about this anymore....
His voice & flow nowdays isnt nearly as good as it used to be, and the production he raps over has been generic n lame on more than a few of those tracks he did the last couple years.....
Perfect example would be those "slauson Boy 2" tracks and that mixtape he dropped with that fake future clone....
I dont think hes gonna make music as good as the "Bullets" & "Marathon" series anytime soon :mjcry:

Reality is they didn’t need 75 days to work this album. Same people invested in buying the project on December 1 will be the same ones buying it on feb 16th.

The two singles are solid for his core base but have done nothing to grow the brand. With that said I’d imagine one more single is coming before it drops.

All facts and the exact same things I've said. People tend to be in love with the idea of Independent Nipsey, but he hasn't gained traction at all to gain any new fans with these singles. He's not even on a single station in the country's top 20 song playlist. He could've stayed independent for this.

Some rap fans may have heard his name, but the majority can't name one song. That's a problem if you're on a major label and have had such a long rollout.

He's trying to play the game like it's 1994 or something. Of all artists, he should know he can't do the same stuff as he's been doing for an actual album.

Looking like Nip is an artist who missed his prime time (Marathon era) to capitalize on a major deal.

And for the record, Nip was my most played artist last year so I'm saying this as a fan wanting to see him blow up musically.

Those last two records BEEN out. It’s a question and highly unlikely they show up on Victory lap. Have they made his fan base grow. I would lean towards no. So what we really doing. This ain’t a battle. We all here for the same thing.

This SUPER rollout was unnecessary and is showing signs of being out of touch with reality. 30-45 days max. The push the Go button too early. These records aren’t impacting or the of the magnitude to live for 30, 45 or 75 days prior to release. That’s just facts.

Having worked at a label, I take a different view. First off I will say MOST artists shouldn't sign to a label. However I don't think Nipsey made a bad decision - it remains to be seen how this goes. The big challenge about being independent is creating a fan base and activating it over the course of multiple years. Nipsey has the fan base. But activating those people can be a problem. What I mean is...how many of your fans know you got a project coming out? Are they ready to support, week one? Nipsey threads on the Coli tend to over represent the hardcore fans: ie folks who are up on every detail, are paying attention to social media, know when projects are coming etc. But most fans don't know until AFTER a project has been released.

Signing to a label increased Nipsey's ability to activate a large portion of his fanbase while also winning SOME new fans. Not a lot of new fans, but enough to add to the numbers.

I will say this tho: the singles are very forgettable. Both feature long periods of every line ending with "nikka" which is just...meh to me. I've heard the first song on ESPN and it's edited to shyt. The songs don't need radio play btw. The point is to remind people he has a project coming, and win some new folks. I'd imagine the features will be contemporary (TDE, some other Cali dudes, someone like Meek or Future or Ross etc) to also attract streams.

I don't think the intent was really a long roll out like this, but I think Nip & the label got stuck between 2 goals. Nip definitely wanted to release this shyt in 2017, but the label wanted to use the All-Star weekend in LA as a spectacle for this release. Nip was getting flack for letting another calendar year go by after promising 2017. So he kick started the campaign in 2017 as a compromise and tried to merge it with the grandiose idea of a Los Angeles All-Star game release, where the whole hip hop world would be watching.
