Why is it cool to hate Jesse and AL ? I hear people all the time debasing these brothas.. I never understood how we could talk so badly about two men who have devoted their lives to our people.

Exactly. When Jews stand up and say their culture is disrespected ppl bow down and respect. White folks got u putting down ur own champions. I'm glad he's out here makin these cacs mad.:smugdraper:

Al Sharpton goes overboard at times, and Jesse Jackson has taken more L's than one can count. But when those two take their last breath i wonder who the black community is gonna have as a voice of the people. All those Civil Rights activists are getting old and dying out.

Why do we need a "voice of the people"? Why cant we all be individuals with different thoughts and opinions like every other race of people on earth?

Cause when stuff like Trayvon Martin happens and Jena 6 we need a public face to speak out on the issues. Now it would be good if we can articulate ourselves individually, but the truth of the matter is many don't have the intellect in order to do that. When things of that nature happens, most times us blacks just be ready to riot. Not actually solving the issue.

This is the point i'm trying to make... If more of us thought like individuals we wouldn't need these one or two people to represent ALL OF US... How are people going to develop intellect when they are just looking to someone else to speak up on a matter? And I don't think you're giving us enough credit... I think we can do fine without these "leaders"... Also, I find it funny that you bring up "rioting", which is a group-think follower type of activity and the way to avoid this activity is to take part in more group think and follow behind what one or two people say...

Al is not an appointed leader of anyone. Black people do not follow his thoughts and opinions in mass. Almost every Black person knows this.
But whites and the media think we do follow this guy, that's why dude has clout. Al knows we as a black community are all individuals with different thoughts and ideas but he is playing racist white folks who just find it easier to think of us as just one blob of thought. So Al's like bet, I'll play the mouthpiece for the $ and platform to address issues he actually cares about. Shyt is chess not checkers B.
And rioting may be a group activity but it is disorganized we are for aiming for a more organized effort. When everyone is treated equal more or less in society than we can worry about concentrating on being individuals.

haha...You can't be serious...

Without a "voice of the people" blacks would still be slaves, women would still be second class citizens, your boss would be able to fire you with no reason, and pay you 5 cents an hour with no benefits...

Which is a shytty thing in my opinion... Everyone gets grouped in a box just because Al Sharpton is supposed to be our "leader"...

I think we are far enough a long where we do need to worry about becoming slaves again.... Lets be serious here... If you're still worried about becoming a slave... You might as well leave the country :heh:

We're past all of those issues you listed :manny:

people have him all wrong.

He isn't the cause of some increase in cac hate... he is just someone that especially irritates cacs

He does kick knowledge sometimes and he is a legend in the civil rights, taking up to the poor and black people, getting media attention for certain causes game.

He may be loud and ignorant and str8 n1ggarish at times; but everyone has their style on TV and radio.

He isn't only a media whore... Every single year for decades he champions causes and takes up for and fights for issues and situations that we never hear about. His organizations and causes are low-key effective at times.

He's not pro-democrat. He is just so anti racist C@C that the party filled with racist C@Cs isn't appealing to him and he probably will never support any of their platform issues. i think he believes in the lesser of two evils principle.

Lastly, he gets in where he fits in.

I used to have ill feelings about him, but the older I get the more I realize we need someone like him to fight for us no matter what. Whether you like his style or not he raises awareness about these racist ass cacs and their bullshyt. He almost singlehandedly brings black issues to mainstream America and for that

:salute: Al Sharpton

This and this. Young bucks whether you like it or not he is arguably the last true civil rights activist we will have. My only two issues with him were how he handled the Tawana Brawley incident, which in retrospect should have been taken with a grain of salt especially since it throws shade on other racially motivated crimes, but hindsight is 20/20. I also disagreed with the combative stance he has taken on hip-hop in the past, though he has eased up in recent times, especially when the dude is not far removed from that era. His tactics aren't perfect his articulation is at times unrefined, and he at times is an attention whore, but he does bring a lot of African-American issues to the forefront, as well being an advocate for the poor (which we as a society have essentially wiped from our social conciousness, imo).

He's an administration plant/water-carrier, but he makes some good arguments. I cringe whenever they played that "Dey was da ones eating da pie!" commercial.

Yea WTF was that, under the context it made a lot of sense, but it was a terrible use of a soundbite, but I like him on MSNBC actually.
