Damn man, a childhood hero of mine forreal
This dude lowkey shaped a good deal of my childhood and honestly my life with his creation. Opened my mind up to a world I didn’t even know existed. RIP Toriyama. Thank you for everything.

Real talk I grew up drawing DBZ pics I found on Lycos fansites that ultimately led me to art school where when I applied for my first grant I mentioned him and Matt Groening as influences in my application. I remember the first time I went to Japan, standing in line at customs with the rep asking me where I planned on staying. Before I could say anything my friend blurts out, “What you’re gonna say Goku’s house”
I say all that to say, Toriyama birthed the Shounen battle genre and created something that not only impacted anime as a whole but a whole ass generation of young males globally.
