The NFL found its niche in making the league a place where fans can carve out a complete day to sit down and watch their games.

Monday night football the following day was a continuance of it.

Thursday night games seem muddled and tied to the run of the mill, middle of the week, regular sports mix.

Unless you have Sunday Ticket/DirectTV, you can't watch every game anyway.

Where I live, I would've never gotten to see a Dolphins/Bills game.....

....not that I watched it anyway, there was too much other stuff on. :manny:

Other than setting up fantasy lineups, it shouldn't be that serious.

Wasn't there a thread earlier this season talkin about "they don't show us enough games" now they give you a free game on Thursday you wouldn't have watched otherwise and it's an inconvenience?

In Dallas, From Cleveland
I don't mind it... (now that TWC got the NFL Network of course)

It does kind of do me dirty with Fantasy Football but I've gotten into the habit of doing all mY FF updates on Weds.

I can't front though, Since NBA season has started I have forgot about the game until later in the evening.

It also doesn't help that knowing they have to compete with NBA on TNT they have 2 of the worse matchups the first 2 weeks they have to go against the NBA...

I get why the NFL Network does it, it adds value to their Network have on exclusive game every week.

I'm never gonna be against another chance to watch NFL football and also its clutch on thursdays before the NBA starts

Not only do most of the matchups suck but the product is bad evne when its two good teams because teams dont have a full week to practice so its always a sloppy game

The part that really disgusts me is the motives behind expanding the thursday night schedule. A: NFL Network is showing these games solely to build up a viewer base for when the NFL sells the Thursday Night rights (looking squarely at content starved networks like NBC Sports, or maybe even CBS Sports). B: the scheduling is done in conjunction with MNF to try ti get every team at least one national primetime game. That's a big part of why the matchups have been :scusthov: at times.

Lost in all this, though is that the product is being diluted. In a sport where each team plays so few games, there shouldn't be an "oh shyt, a game's on!" moment. On top of that, that short turnaround from a sunday game to a thursday game can be vicious. Look at what happened to the Ravens.

Like I said in the other thread, thursday night is basketball night.

I thought Thursday night is poker night :smugfavre:

Monday night is RAW night
Tuesday night is Sons of Anarchy night
Wednesday night is basketball night
Thursday night is poker night
Friday night is spank the monkey night
Saturday... morning is football(real football) morning
Sunday is american football time

I think this is a sign of things to come. If you think about it the way the NFL operates is a bit counterproductive with this 24/7 world we live in. One cannot POSSIBLY watch all the NFL games so the potential money gained by adding games several days per week is huge.

I think they keep working on it in the coming years...maybe 1-2 games per night in where the whole country watches. Maybe try to work out a schedule in where every team gets 6-8 days off and of course the bye week.
