After you sneeze, do you excuse yourself or wait to be blessed?

I excuse myself and then if I'm around friends, I wait for them to say bless you. If they don't, I stare at them until they do

On the other hand I had a teacher who said the term was impolite and she'd get annoyed if we said it to her
