After watching Deadpool I’ve come to the conclusion that nostalgia is the only way a Superhero movie can be successful

Because the MCU filled a void

There was no larger universe of heroes that was out there and done well. We had a couple shytty attempts but nothing near the MCU.

It was printing money because everybody was invested in the universe. We were all in even on the obscure shyt characters like Shang Chi. Now we are here and simply being a part of the larger MCU isn’t enough of a draw to carry movies anymore (ex The Marvels)

So now they need to reinvent the entire thing. Which is probably why they plan to reboot everything after this next phase. They know it’s getting stale.

you proved my point, people CARED about the characters- has nothing to do with nostalgia- most people who supported Marvel movies didnt grow up reading comics, so what nostalgia for them?

When you say new superheros, are you talking about brand new ones or just ones we haven't seem turned into a movie yet?

Cause we certainly don't need any brand new ones there are so many characters who's stories haven't been told yet.

There can be no "new" superheroes.

The ones that are popular are pretty old. Superman and Batman are knocking on 100. Marvel heroes are over 50. You have your GotG and Miles Morales and that type of thing, but they are attached to the overall, decades old history.

New characters that are super hero-like is stuff like Matrix, John Wick, and Fast/Furious. No costume. No lab accident which gave them powers. But they do all this crazy stuff that's impossible for mortals.

It would be possible to make good movies of the classic comic characters without resorting to nonstop easter eggs. They might even just put the comics on screen. Seeing as how that's the reason we wanna go to a damn COMIC BOOK movie in the first place. The comics themselves.

They're oversaturated.

4 movies and 3 TV shows a year that you had to somewhat follow to know completely what's going on gave everyone fatigue and most of the good characters have had their stories told, even if they didn't tell that story we'll.

And that's just the MCU.

DW- made over a billion dollars- I guarantee more than half that audience never heard of the TVA- you didnt have to watch previous DP movies to understand this one. The movies post end game SUCKED- bad writing, no character investment, poor villains - there isnt comic book movie fatigue its shytty movie fatigue.

Deadpool by virtue of him constantly breaking the 4th wall you don't need any backstory because he tells you what happens as well as constantly doing flashbacks.

This isn’t even a knock on Marvel its every company. Rehash after rehash

With that being said how come new superhero’s aren’t being created for the newer generation? Blade, Gambit that’s who we grew up on. It’s only so many times Batman and all them other fools can be recreated.

Would modern society even accept a newly created Superhero with no past history?
IMO, superhero movies work when you have an excellent villain. For example, General Zod in Man of Steal and Thanos in the Avengers. To answer your question, yes. Movies like Brightburn and even Hancock (Will Smith) would have worked if they made squeals. Hollywood has just been lazy as fyck. :yeshrug:

Edit: Deadpool got away with not having a good villain because they like the characters. Meanwhile, people don't know about Black Atom but the movie bombed cause folks couldn't tell if he was good or bad. The writing sucked.

saw deadpool vs wolverine and it was o.k. imma just wait for movies to come out on bluray again, the movie going experience is not what it used to be.

I was telling dudes this in the deadpool thread. Id much rather watch these movies on my tv, in 4k. The picture quality at movies now is super dated if you aren’t going to true imax. As far as i know there’s only 1 true imax in nyc.

Is all art a callback to something you experienced. How you gain attachment if you cant comprehend it?

Dont get this premise.
