3 big problems with After Earth:
1. M Night is a horrible director. His pace is far too slow for a summer movie, and he's always been too reliant on the surprise ending.
2. You can't expect any 15 year old (even the most acclaimed ones like the girl in True Grit or the girl in Hanna) to act by his lonesome for half of a movie. Most adult actors would struggle with such a difficult task. Will and M Night did the kid dirty.
3. You don't take one of most charismatic movie stars in Will Smith and make him stone face the entire movie. That's like taking out every action scene in a movie featuring The Rock and making him monologue the whole time.

I keep scrolling & I just get More & More Disappointed by y'all. 
After Earth was in NO WAY a masterpiece but the film is not as bad as people make it out to be. Most of you just riding the wave of "It's popular to sh#t on this so I will".
I'm bias with this because I'm almost positive it's the FIRST big budget Hollywood film that STARS a black man with a majority BLACK CAST that isn't a Bio-pic, Civil-rights "Oh, Look at how much sh#t blacks had to deal with in the past" flick or a corny as$ "Think Like A MAn" type Rom-COm. It was SCi-FI!!!!!
If you quit letting stuffy as$ "Critics" who by the way 9 times out of 10 never created a film in their lives dictate what's good from bad you'll notice how Black folks almost NEVER get to lead a fictional film were WE'RE THE HEROES & WE DON'T DIE!

Maybe, because I'm not a movie snob, but, I didn't think AF was bad.

What was scientology about the movie?
After Earth was aight to me. Movie wasn't perfect, but it wasn't horrible either. Movie just needed some better blow you away type action sequences. The action was cool and the movie did have it's lull/slow points, but that was it. At the end of the day I was entertained.
I haven't even heard anybody say anything positive about Lucy yet.

So now hollywood is out to get Will Smith?....Honestly pick your fukking battles. White people love will smith this isn't some conspiracy to ruin his career. There is real issues out there for black folks more than enough for you to give a fukk about some bombed, garbage movie.
They were equally terrible so they both should have crapped out at 11%.

And don't hide behind the "black folks we did it" bullshyt. Especially in a year where a movie with a mostly black cast directed and written by black men came away with Best Picture at the Oscars. THAT'S a movie all black folks should be proud of, not Jaden Smith making funny faces at green screens for 2 hours.
After Earth isn't a classic, but it's far from garbage people made it out to be. Plus, it's the first sci-fi anything to show a black father/son dynamic since the show with the man in my avi.
