Just got mine back today!

You only got me by a little bit. I got 5% cac and 1% east asian.

94% African!
:blessed:

Togo/Benin and Cameroon/Congo are tied as my highest regions with Ivory Coast/Ghana and Nigeria tied as second highest.

Put it into GEDmatch earlier too and my highest ethnic groups are Bamoun, Igbo and Hausa. If any brehs or brehettes know anything about these groups i'd surely appreciate it just for curiosity's sake.

Tons of Nigerians on this board they can run down the Hausa and Igbo ethnics groups for you.

The Bamoun and Bamileke people are part of the Tikar ethnic group. From what I have read the Bamoun and Bamileke appear to be the same people. The only difference in the Bamileke and Bamoun people, is that the Fulani drove some Bamileke people further west than the other Bamileke people. The Bamileke that were not driven west are now known as Bamoun/Bamum/Mum people.

Where they some peasant working class cacs that were brought over here and treated as blacks or something? I thought most cac blood in us would be British or German.

The English and Irish likely have Scandinavian (Swedan, Norway, Denmark, etc. Finland is not Scandinvia, but it is not far away) ancestry. So the English men raping of African women is likely the basis of the Scandinavian roots in African Americans.

I was born in the Virgin Islands but On ancestry I'm at 99% African. On myheritage, I'm at 96% African. Literally 50% of my DNA on ancestry.com is from Benin/Togo. On myheritage I'm 63 percent Nigerian(no markers for Benin). I'm only 7 percent Nigerian on Ancestry.

In 10 years time, they'll get a lot more accurate with more testing and detailing but right now it after the initial :ohhh::whoo: wears out it's :manny:

On AncestryDna they advise people not to take the Countries literally. They are just saying your DNA looks like the people in the region of Benin and Togo. Borders are man made, so DNA doesn't stop at a line on a map.

AncestryDNA Regions

Fwiw, the Kingdom of Benin used to be a part of modern day Nigeria.

Benin Empire - Wikipedia

The Country of Benin is a Colonial creation. So your DNA is from around that region and your ancestors would be what we would now call Nigerian; I would say that they are more than likely Yoruba. Another thing to keep in mind is that your ancestors were taken to the Caribbean and then you ended up in the USA. That would be in line with a the Jihad War started in 1804 by the Fulani Islamic Cleric Usman Dan Fodio of the Northern Fulani-Hausa Kingdoms of modern day Nigeria. That Jihad collapsed the Yoruba kingdoms (in modern day Southern Nigeria). Many of the Yoruba war captives sold into slavery by the Fulani and taken the Caribbean Islands and to Central and South America (mostly Brazil).

Usman dan Fodio - Wikipedia

A lot of Yoruban people taken to the Caribbean were eventually sold to slave owners in the USA. The sales happened because the USA had banned the importation of Africans directly from African in 1807. That ban lead to some smuggling of Africans into the USA from Africa, but real effect was the purchasing of slaves from the Caribbean; which is when much of the Nigerian DNA got into the USA. There were some other Nigerians brought to the USA earlier (Hausa, Fulani and Igbo), but not at the level of the Yoruba that came later. The interesting part about the Fulani is that they were driven to Nigeria by the Mandingos that they had been fighting in Senegambia. There were a lot of wars among African ethnic groups that led to slavery in the Americas.

But 1-2% is such a tiny amount. Would that be because of how early that was in the DNA timeline or because someone was mixed?

It might be because the Scandinavian ancestor of the British person was far back in time. If it was only at 10% in some German or English dude that raped your great great great great great great grandmother then it will be at a smaller amount in subsequent generations if no other English dude raped any of the other women in your family.

Download your data from the AncestryDna website and upload them into GEDmatch to see your specific ethnic groups.

After you upload it it’s going i give you a code and you just enter that code into admixture to see your specific ethnic group.

This is the website I used and it helped me earlier. It didn’t take long at all.
