I have to ask one of my aunties about our lineage. I believe she knows. I remember her showing me slave buy/sell reciepts that were researched at one of our family reunions. That shyt was mad creepy :sadcam:

It showed my distant family members being bought and sold like livestock and basically distributed in 4 or 5 different states of the south

I know what your talking about...

There was this documentary called the "Presidents" on the History Channel that went through all of them up to Bush...

I remember when they were on the part of Lincoln they were showing images of Black folks in the 1800s that at times looked better quality than 1950s images and I remember my reaction when I saw this:

Go to around about "34:20" of that link...

"Mowden...15 years old PRIME COTTON BOY"? :wtf:

"Flementia....age 39....Good Cook...Stiff Knee"? :smh:

Yeah bruh. The slave reciepts and records showed the description of each person and what prospective jobs and skills they were able to do. Seein that shyt made me realize how heartless and inhumane slave traders were. These MFs were splittin up familes and shyt with no fukks given :wow:

Mostly Alabama & Florida

I saw some stuff like that too about auctions, slave occupations, and breeding and shyt (some slave masters were serious voyeurs and used to make their slaves fukk in front of them sort of like an experiment type thing but I don't know how true that is), but most of my family is from Mississippi and Louisiana.

yeah it is true that slave owners would deliberately breed the biggest men and women together so that their offspring would be big and strong workers. Ive also heard that slave traders only took the healthiest and strongest Africans. They let behind the sick, crippled and unhealthy. So that the breeding pools would always be strong

That is only a very small percentage of your ancestry. You can be 100% European with a Black haplogroup (direct line) like a cousin of mine. Or be 90% Black with non-Black haplogroups like another person I know. I did all the testing but autsomal is much better for figuring out who you are. Not that it isn't fun to learn about deep ancestry with the haplogroups/direct line testing. It does answer some questions (are the McHughs in this county related to the McHughs in that one..confirming parentage/direct male or female line descendents).

The great thing is that 23andMe and FamilyTreeDNA have permanently lowered their prices. So anyone can test now. African Ancestry is cool but they don't test very much of your DNA, not even as much as the bare minimum tests they don't even bother to sell to the public anymore at some companies. I'd love to access their database testing at the levels of other companies, though.
