Africans sold other Africans to the Europeans during the slave trade. Africans were forcefully taken during warfare and/or during village raids by otherAfricans; who in most cases were armed by Europeans. So the trade ended up being for the benefit of Europeans, but it just goes to show how low down, dirty and inhumane Africans can be towards one another.

The user name is part of my DNA ethnicity. And just because a bunch of a$$holes warred against my ancestors to cause them to be enslaved does not mean that ethnicity is not still the same. And if you don't like the truth about the happenings of slavery then your beef should be with the African nations who to this day don't even acknowledge that the shyt happened. To be honest with you the African nations owe millions of disenfranchised and displaced Africans reparations for the actions of their ancestral clansmen. At minimum each and every modern country should grant dual citizenship and land to every person in the diaspora that can prove that their ancestors originated in the regions of the current modern countries.

Ghanain leaders have made it known for a long time of their involvement in the trade and their government has been out front and apologized for the role that they play.

The Nigerian government hasn't made any formal apologies that I have seen for the role of their ethnic groups in the trade. One cheiftan that I have found in Cameroon apologized, but the rest of the ethnic groups in that Country remain silent.

The real issue that I seeing going forward is that those African nations have been selling raw materials to the West and now to Asia for a very long time. My true feelings on this is that some of those resources being sold probably belonged to some of the people forcibly removed due to the slave trade. If people in the diaspora ancestors had legal claims to the land that some of those resources have been taken from; then their descendants need to be compensated.

DNA is showing where most current people in the diaspora ancestors originated from. So clearly people can see where their ancestors were likely linked to in Africa. Additionally, while many African societies may not have kept written history; they certainly did keep oral history through griots and other sources; so you can certainly narrow down a lot about some of the people who were spirited away. The matters will not be precise, but close enough should do; because millions of people were disenfranchised of their lands, homes and properties.

And we are not using yesterdays laws; we should use today's laws because that the law has become quiet adept at being able to appoint rights to people. Germany was forced to pay England, France and others after the wars; so why shouldn't modern African nations be forced to repay people in the diaspora for the theft of land, materials and family during the trade. They can put the money aside in trust funds to educate every African in the diaspora. They certainly steal enough for the crooked ass chiefs and politicians in their countries; so they need to be forced to pay up.
