You all focused on poetry, but the title also mentions writers and literature.

Fwiw, I still think that this is the best book that I have ever read and I say that knowing that I have read quite a few books:

That book inspired and still inspires a lot of people, including this guy:

Who wrote this masterpiece after acknowledging that Malcolm X made him think about the Haley family history:

In all honesty I had never read anything like Malcolm X's biography and I believe that it should be mandatory reading for every African American male. Period.

Im accepting everything, This thread was just inspired by the poetry thread.

I also post alot of poetry because thats my one of my main love in literature. Plus its the most likely you can find to just read off the internet compared to novels, short stories, books etc

By all means post whatever you like, if your love is plays do so. If its novels do it.

For as popular as Maya Angelou is

it surprises me that her Son's novel and sequel to it, is soooo under the radar.

Granted Famour writer's offsppring's do not get popular just off their parent. But this series Is beyond just underrated. Rarely is it ever talked about. The duology is very good, although the 1st book > 2nd book(Nonetheless, still a good finisher)

Being that we have had "If Beale Street" and now were getting "Native Son" if there is one novel or series that needs a series its this

the protagonist King Tremain is badass and the way he stands up to Cacs in this is:wow:.

SOIcover.jpg

found out about this book via Ras Kass's album Soul on Ice, always planned on reading it but never got to it

were you gonna post something?:lupe:
hi, I was using the "...." as a placeholder as I read through the noteworthy threads in this section, just so that it's easier for me to come back to finish reading, browsing and read through the information, comprehensively.

TBH, I didn't know how extensive this section was until the past few weeks when people put me on to ... so as I navigate through, it's easier to track where I leave off.

To answer your question though, my father had a copy of that book in his house.. Never read it. I've heard of it many times and know what it's about. just never actually read. added to my amazon book list. I'm reading through the Frederick Douglass diaries, atm, where he is documenting his life experiences from a child to adulthood - I'll post it up. Good thread that you started..

The Life and Times of Frederick Douglass: Written by Himself
“In this engrossing narrative, he recounts early years of abuse; his dramatic escape to the North and eventual freedom, abolitionist campaigns, and his crusade for full civil rights for former slaves. It is also the only of Douglass' autobiographies to discuss his life during and after the Civil War, including his encounters with American Presidents such as Lincoln, Grant, and Garfield.”
