I realised fairly quickly as an adult that I'm not a "gamer" - I just like playing games. I've never spent more than a few minutes in any CAW system, so it's not something I'm going to miss. What I want from a wrestling game is easy pick-up gameplay - the only games I'm willing to actually spend time to learn and master these days are racing sims and FIFA - and a bunch of laughs... Fight Forever is doing pretty well on both fronts.
Played for a few hours with the girlfriend jumping in occasionally and it really does feel like the N64/PSOne era for all its pros AND cons - the game is genuinely fun to play and only takes a couple of matches to learn, the amount of times you say "Oh, can I... I CAN!" when you're figuring things out is massive but they might as well have not bothered with half of the commentary/script stuff - it's AWFUL - badly written and badly acted... I'd actually forgotten how janky stuff used to sound... it's almost nostalgic. Almost.
Doubt I'll bother much with online unless/until they come good with the Stadium Stampede rumours.
Road to Elite is fun for a few hours, but the sound design and BS eating, gym and sightseeing turns make it a bit of a chore overall - same as almost every story mode I've ever played really. Just give me matches and promos. That's all you need.
The menus aren't exactly intuitive when it comes to setting match rules and stuff, but again, it's not something that wrestling games have ever really excelled at. More match types and some more wrestlers are all I need from it really - hopefully DLCs will address those.
Girlfriend can't help point out how crappy the facial modelling is every time she sees it, but in the same breath, it's the ONLY game she's ever requested gets fired up since she's been living with me. She finished work earlier than me on Friday and asked me to put it on so she could play some matches instead of watching TV.
