They could make it work for them. Let athletes have 1 or 2 personally sponsored ads on their own jerseys. Let them eat too. With this regard they could either lower the luxury tax, salary cap or lower prices on beer god damn it.

aren't ads on the jerseys that they sell to fans essentially free advertisement? What happens when Samsung ends its contract with the Heat for instance, would they revoke the millions of heats jerseys they sold before?

Also, what about conflict of interest? If I'm a Pepsi endorsor wearing Coca Cola on my jersey? (Actually, I assume this would be similar to an Addidas endorser wearing Nike jerseys).

It's not that deep

I will never understand why this is such a big deal, like why is this upsetting people ?

people psychologically will resist change almost always :manny: this won't even be an afterthought in 5 years

personally, I think as long as they make it tasteful, ie. that Jordan coca-cola uniform looks pretty good :ehh:, but if they NASCAR it up :smh:

It's upsetting people because they take pride in their home team's colors/jerseys, they represent the city they're from. Also they're a part of popular culture and fashion and no one wants to be wearing their team's jersey with a fukking Progressive Insurance logo in the corner. Then there's the insanely die hard fans whose home teams are as hallowed to them or even more so than their own religion, and it's part of their identity. They literally fight for their teams' honor, so to take that and water it down and sully it even more than the actual games themselves have already been just hurts the overall integrity of the game. To some people it's probably almost the equivalent of putting advertisements on military uniforms, which would be a national disgrace. I'm not a fan of it but it's not that serious to me, but I can understand the mindset of people who are really pissed about it.

EDIT: Don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet, but I just read an article and the logos are not going to be on the jerseys sold at retail anyway, so it's not really that big of a deal.

http://www.newsweek.com/nba-jerseys-corporate-logos-448396

"The three-year "pilot program" will coincide with Nike taking over the NBA's apparel sponsorship from Adidas. ESPN reports that the program is expected to generate up to $120 million a year for the league. Corporate logos will not, however, appear on jerseys that are sold at retail."

Who. Cares.

I'd be lying though if I said ads on MLB jerseys wouldn't bother me, at least at first, lol.

Upper right corner. That''s where the league is headed.

I swear that's why they have the Heat wearing these jerseys they're wearing now with the number on the front in the upper right corner, to get us used to the whole front of the jersey looking different while opening up a much larger spot for an ad.
