Is it though? The NHL has the exact opposite problem of NBA All Star Weekend, in which everyone is praising the Nations matchup. People who don’t watch hockey (like me) tuned into that U.S. Vs Canada game Saturday night, and it was electric. I watched that over the All Star Saturday night festivities. I never watch hockey, nor care much about it, but everyone was going crazy over it on X, and I tuned into to watch. The NBA will continue to decline in ratings and interest, if it doesn’t start listening to the fans.

The NBA had the kind of weekend where fans will eventually call for the All Star game to get cancelled. This format sucked, and it continues to show how out of touch the commissioner is, and it shows how entitled and selfish the players are for not giving the necessary effort to make the game competitive.

People are talking like last years ASG was a better product. Or the year before. Or the year before that. It has been awful for a very long time, regardless of format. What is the common denominator? It isnt the commissioner, it is the players.

I have heard this take everywhere recently and I cant rock with it. People who are motivated enough to watch Inside the NBA arent the viewership audience they are losing. People who watch Inside the NBA are more than likely already watching some games.

They are losing the very casual audience that tunes into marquee events and its because they dont have compelling (new) superstars or rivalries that draw that general attention. Was Inside the NBA providing high end analysis when the NBA was doing better a decade ago? It was the exact same product then too.
