Because the players weren’t the ones that said anything
China was trying to paint themselves as having a moral upper hand against the situation in HK, there's no way they would continue to have that if they take random un-involved hostages.
Please listen to this before responding in this thread again. This was a Lakers beat reporter who was actually there.
- When Morey tweeted what he tweeted, no one was in China, if it was going to be so unsafe they had the opportunity to not go.
- The cancellation of events was done by the Chinese government to make sure the NBA players didn't say anything else detrimental during a red carpet appearance and the games could go on as scheduled, not because of safety issues.
- Only Rockets logos and posters are being taken down, all other teams logos left up; only Rockets broadcasts are being banned, all other teams are continuing on; Rockets message board in China taken down, all other teams message boards are left up
Morey is the one who said the thing, he is the one getting death threats from Chinese bots or what not and those must be taken as credible as a precautionary measure.
