I kid, I kid...Roddy Strong's great.
Yeah, wrestling discussions turn into the Shade Room whenever height gets brought into the equations.
It's 2020, height in Sports/Entertainment don't matter, what matters is if you're good enough and can do your job.
Russell Wilson is 5'11"
Kyler Murray is 5'10" (if that)
Conor McGregor is 5'9"
Mookie Betts is 5'9"
Lionel Messi is 5'7"
All listed are/have been at the top of their respective sports so why when it comes to wrestling, height becomes an issue?
I can only speak for myself, but the problem for me isn't simply height. If it were, I wouldn't be on here calling Rey Mysterio one of the greatest of all time (and
if you believe otherwise). My issue is that he doesn't have the body of an athlete, but any 25-year-old skinny-fat dude you see walking on the side walk. And even
that wouldn't kill him for me if he had, say, Jordan Kilganon athleticism. But he doesn't, he's just another overhyped small white dude that was never that good to begin with and whose work has deteriorated badly since going to NXT (Roddy's small and on the skinner side too, but his work is intense and crisp as can be. It feels like I'm watching an athlete try to win a fight when I watch Roddy wrestle, regardless of promotion or venue).
I don't give a shyt whether he's 6'0", 5'9", 5'7", 3'2" or whatever the fukk. I simply need to believe in you as a wrestler and in your persona (case in point: the dirty little secret about '97-'98 Shawn Michaels, at least to me, is that his offense was never all that convincing to me. I couldn't just look at a match and believe off the strength of his work alone that he could control The Undertaker for an extended period of time. Thing is, everything else was great, ESPECIALLY the bumping...my god he was an all-time great bumper around then, and his heel persona was so credible that it compensated for all of his shortcomings). Cole has never ever been someone I could believe in as a wrestler, and when neither the gimmick or the in-ring work makes you believe in him, the size issue gets pushed to the forefront and becomes a real issue for people.
