With the way Markakis is playing, is it better to skip the Harper sweepstakes and go for Machado in FA. We only got 34 million on the roster next year. With the profit of this season. We could have 120 million to spend.

Markakis won't be here past the trading deadline either way...he's getting traded for a bullpen arm or a starter

I like Machado but where would he play? Austin Riley, our 3B of the future, is playing well down in Double A-Mississippi hitting .310. He'll be here no later than next season. We're set every where else in the infield. Honestly I'd rather spend on getting 2-3 aces & strengthing the bullpen in FA next offseason. Allard & Soroka (who we might see in May) are our next two starters to get called up

Austin Riley is sound but hes not really a defensive player. Bryce maybe easier to get due to his cost being way too high for most

Lord knows we could use the bullpen help. I like your plan.

Maybe Minter becomes the full time closer (shyt maybe Folty becomes the closer one day, I've heard that talk recently), maybe Vizcaino gets it together, but until we get the walks under control (as a staff) and get better quality starts out of the starters I'm hesitant to really buy in too much into what we're seeing. I just don't think you can be a postseason type squad with subpar pitching, but I'm very happy with where we're at. I definitely didn't think we'd be a game out of first going into May

Riley can play a corner outfield spot if his bat holds up. So can Dansby if it’s that serious since Machado has said he’s not going back to 3B.

Hitters are safer bets in FA and we have straight up too many pitching prospects for me to want to bring in more than 1 TOR starter next year. If Newk and Folty both fall off completely and Gohara and Soroka both look to be years away then we can talk but I’d much rather worry about what to do with one solid hitting prospect than with 5 pitching prospects

I mean honestly I'd rather keep our guy at Riley and continue to develop one of our own at 3B. If we get Machado or Harper cool, but I'd much rather invest in the pitching. Teheran, Folty and Newcomb are a solid end of a rotation. If we can find at least 2 elite starters, I'd be willing to commit that money in FA

What makes you believe in Riley more than Soroka/Allard/Wright/Wentz/Wilson/Toussaint/Anderson/Gohara? That’s 8 guys with at least #3 starter ceilings and 3 that are consensus potential aces. Riley is cool but I’d bank on 2 of these 8 becoming Smoltz and Glavine over Riley being the 2nd coming of Larry Jones.

I'm saying let it play out...our farm system is #1 in baseball for a reason, I'm not gonna move one of our guys to another position prematurely just to make room for a guy (Machado) in a hypothetical situation. Riley is our 3B of the future, give him the opportunity to be that

And for the record I don't believe in any one of the prospects over the others. They all have great potential and I want to see them all continue to develop

EDIT: But with money to spend we'll go get a corner outfielder and some pitching next offseason. Even with our prospects we still need depth in the big league rotation
