EXCLUSIVE: Morgan Creek Productions has hired investment banking group Houlihan Lokey to sell domestic rights to its library of 78 films that includes such comedy classics as the Major League and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective series, the gritty True Romance from Tony Scott and Quentin Tarantino, the Daniel Day Lewis-starrer The Last Of The Mohicans, and the Kevin Costner-starring Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves. The advantage of their film library is that it is loaded with a lot of family-friendly product.

Morgan Creek is currently producing Tupac, the biopic about rapper Tupac Shakur who rose to great heights before being gunned down in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas. As part of any sale, Morgan Creek would retain remake rights for five titles — Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Major League, Young Guns, Flying Tigers and The Exorcist — but pay a percentage of the gross profit to the new owner of the library.

The company is completely debt-free. Hence, the money that comes from sale of the library will go back into its film production fund. “I’m selling the library strictly for economic reasons,” Morgan Creek CEO Jim Robinson told Deadline. “It will go back into the company to fund more production. We have a number of properties that we are looking to move forward on.” Hmmm, could a remake of Major League and Acebe in the works? “Yes,” said Robinson, who said that ideas are being tossed right now for both those and The Exorcist.

Morgan Creek was co-founded by Robinson and Joe Roth in 1988. Roth even directed a film through the company back in 1989, Coupe de Ville, which starred a very young Patrick Dempsey and Daniel Stern. In fact, Morgan Creek employed many young actors and actresses before they were big movie stars; the film that launched Jim Carrey’s career, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, was done at Morgan Creek and released in 1994. The Young Guns movies were typical of the company picking young talent and allowing them space to flourish. That one starred Emilio Estevez, Lou Diamond Phillips, Dermut Mulroney and Keifer Sutherland.

In October 2014, Morgan Creek sold off its international distribution rights to Revolution Studios, which Roth founded and then sold to Fortress Investment Group, which manages billions in assets. That deal was done for $36.75 million for 64 titles. At that point, Morgan Creek retained the domestic distribution rights, so the company is selling the rights available.

LOL @ remaking Ace Ventura. That's such a 90's movie and no one could possibly play that
character like Carrey.

Ace Ventura remake starring Zac Efron, Jessica Biel, and Peyton Manning :scust:

Hasn't the exorcist been remade 100 times already? Every year there are 3 exorcism movies.

Only one I see happening is Major League. It'll be PG13 and make $10 mill domestic gross.

the character was modeled after carrey's brand of comedy. he basically invented the character himself. there is zero chance of anyone being able to recreate that same magic.

Never seen "Ace Ventura" or "Major League". But I definitely wanna eventually watch "Ace Ventura".

:ehh: I'm open to an "Exorcist" remake. I've just gotten so used remakes of 80's & 70's Horror films.

So you're ready to hang me upside down off a hotel balcony for not wanting to BUY the lion king, beauty and the beast, and the little mermaid (three movies I've seen many times, mind you) but you haven't seen major league or Ace Ventura? :beli:

Anyway, remaking Ace is tough. It's built around Jim and truly is only funny because of Jim. He's certainly game, let him be the star and go from there.

And they've been making exorcist sequels since the 80s

I've never seen any of "The Exorcist" sequels. Are those worth watching? How do you even continue that storyline?

The 3rd one is dope. 2nd one is terrible. the only other one i saw after the 3rd one are the two prequels that came out in 05 or 06. they're interesting to say the least.

And it's no need to spoil it, watch them and you'll see what they do.

Interesting. Like you mentioned, have no idea how Ace would work now. Maybe we would get a gritty dark tale of the life of a pet detective. Now that i think of it what did snowflake have to do with the overall plot?

The og Major league is a classic to me. I could see a remake having success especially if they take a similar approach to young guns and showcase younger actors.

Word. Truth be told, you could keep making Major League flicks for eternity because a sports movie will never go out of style and an underdog sports tale definitely never goes out of style and they've been trying to do a proper major league sequel for years now. That one doesn't befuddle me but doing an Ace remake does because I don't see how you do it without Ace?

Snowflake was simply the case he was working. He needed to find the dolphin
