“We’ll see where my body tapers off at,” Granados said. “I was hearing – I believe he got sick and that’s what kind of threw off his camp. I mean, I was sick, too, as well. I was still planning on making 142, but he just made it easier on both of us. And I still expect a competitive and even fight, and it’s gonna be a great fight.”

If Granados is okay with it, I'm okay with it. :manny:

What happened to taking no shortcuts? :dead:

Would you rather Jose Aldo vs McGregor at a catchweight, or the full limit?

A shortcut isn't telling someone, "hey, I'm not going to be able to fight 5 lbs under the weight..we just gonna have to do it at the full weight limit".

And his opponent has fought at the weight more than Broner has anyways (147)

Granados: I Have a Feeling Me & Broner Will ‘Make a Classic’
By Keith Idec

The highly competitive nature of his well-documented sparring sessions against Adrien Broner haven’t left Adrian Granados overconfident.

All that time in the ring with Broner has, however, given Granados every reason to expect that he’ll give the former four-division champion everything he can handle February 18 in Cincinnati. Had he not helped Broner prepare for his fight against Marcos Maidana, the first loss of Broner’s career, Granados wouldn’t feel as confident about boxing Broner as he does.

Granados (18-4-2, 12 KOs) is more than a 2-1 underdog a week in advance of his 12-round welterweight fight against Cincinnati’s Broner (32-2, 24 KOs) at Xavier University’s Cintas Center, but the Chicago-area contender doesn’t feel like one because he remembers how well he exploited some of Broner’s weaknesses during sparring.

“It was a great experience,” Granados said during a conference call Thursday. “It reaffirmed to myself that I belong on that level. I mean, they were very competitive sparring sessions. They were very exciting and it was just a reminder that I belong at this level. I helped prepare Juan Manuel Marquez for his fight against Juan ‘The Baby Bull’ Diaz, when he beat him by knockout.

“And it, like I said, was a reminder that I belong at that level. Because as I was competitive with Juan Manuel Marquez, I was just as competitive with Adrien Broner. And just what I got from the sparring was like that if we ever fought it’s gonna be a very entertaining, very competitive, very high-action fight. So that’s definitely what I’m expecting next Saturday. It’s gonna be exciting for boxing. It’s gonna exciting for Showtime and the people there in Cincinnati, Ohio. It’s just gonna be a great fight. I have a feeling we’re gonna make a classic.”

While sparring experience is very valuable, the 27-year-old Granados recognizes that fight night will be a different deal altogether.

“I’m definitely old school and I think that goes out the window,” Granados said. “When we’re under the bright lights, smaller gloves, no headgear, it’s gonna be a free-for-all and may the best man win. And the best man will win that night. Sparring’s completely different from the fight – the show and the lights and the atmosphere. I’m not banking on the sparring sessions we had. I just know that, you know, I can compete with him and I can beat him. And I know he feels the same way about me. So, I mean, that’s why we’re in this fight. And it’s gonna be an electrifying night February 18th.”

Broner-Granados will headline a “Showtime Championship Boxing” tripleheader.

Junior middleweights Marcus Browne (18-0, 13 KOs), of Staten Island, New York, and Thomas Williams Jr. (20-2, 14 KOs), of Fort Washington, Maryland, are set to open the telecast in a 10-rounder. In the co-featured fight, Russia’s David Avanesyan (22-1-1, 11 KOs) is scheduled to defend his WBA world welterweight title against Lamont Peterson (34-3-1, 17 KOs), a former IBF/WBA 140-pound champion from Washington, D.C.

hearing some strong rumors that broner might not make 147..which would be beyond ridiculous

:snoop:....... if he don't come back this time its really over.

but hey at least he can use his name/draw to become promoter. that would be a good career change to be honest.

I would sit back n get paid and not even worry bout "physical boxing". its more than one way to skin a cat.:manny:

Granados' Coach Hopes They 'Beat The Hell' Out of Adrien Broner

By Carlos Boogs

George Hernandez, the trainer of junior welterweight contender Adrian Granados (18-4-2, 12 KOs), believes they are catching Adrien Broner (32-2, 24 KOs) at the right moment.

Their Showtime televised fight take place on Saturday from the Cintas Center at Xavier University in Cincinnati.

Broner, a former four division world champion, has been very inactive based on his usual level of activity. He usually fights at least three to four times a year, but last year he only had a single fight.

Broner last fought in April of 2016, when he stopped Ashley Theophane. In that contest, Broner was set to defend his WBA junior welterweight title. He lost the title on the scale after failing to make weight.

That pattern has continued for the upcoming fight with Granados. Broner is once again struggling with weight. The contest was scheduled to take place at a catch-weight of 142. Last week, Broner requested a change in weight - and now the fight is taking place at the full welterweight limit of 147-pounds.

Hernandez wants his boxer to dish out a beating and repeat their stunning upset from 2015, when Granados knocked out undefeated and highly regarded Amir Imam.

"Broner puts his gloves on the same way we do. This is what we want. We want the big names. Beating Broner can get us to the next level. No one is going to give us anything. We need to earn it. We're going to his backyard and we're going to take it from him," Hernandez said.

"If Adrian can beat the hell out of this kid in his hometown that will send a message to all the kids in this community. It will let them know that you can succeed and do great things. Every kid that's in here dreams of this opportunity. We're ready and we're not going to let it slip away."

Granados and his trainer are very involved with their local boxing scene in Chicago, which is one of the roughest cities in the United States. They want to inspire the local youth by shocking Broner.

"This is one of the toughest areas to train in. If you can persevere through that you know you can make it in this sport. We could have gone away for camp but we wanted to stay here because it's home. The only way to make this city better is by staying here and leading the charge and showing these kids that we can get away from that norm and bring better attention to this area," Hernandez said.
