Yup this is definitely a phenomenon I've seen with the rise of the internet and especially social media. People develop huge delusions of grandeur because too many fawn over every word they say.
Meltz is that friend of yours that is super into independent films, and feels like he has to add qualifiers whenever he likes an Avengers film or some shyt. Like you understand his perspective and appreciate his opinion, but he has this way of being like, "You like this? I mean, it's cute, but not as good as [insert obscure thing he just watched here]."

New Japan is legit great wrestling.. there's true psychology and the matches are built towards big spots and there's limb work, there's storytelling... I can see why he'd rate it as high as he does. NJPW is very good.
This indy stuff though.. It's not for me. A lot of it is spot into another spot. No selling. 2.9 near falls on death moves, get up like nothing happened and hit another death move.

Alexa/Mickie had a good story in the match itself, which tied into the angle, and was good all around. Emma/Asuka was literally the women's version of Dolph vs Nak at Backlash and sucked for the same reasons.

Call me a mark all you want, but the atmosphere of a great match in a WWE arena with the amount of fans/production/etc puts it on another level than just about anything that happens in an indy ring. That's not to say great matches can't go down at PWG or ROH, but it's no different than being far more invested in a Penn St-Ohio St football game in primetime on Saturday than some high-scoring MAC Thursday night game. Bowling Green and Toledo could go into 6 OT's and pull out some crazy trick plays, and it isn't gonna interest me the same way a Alabama-Georgia game will. Higher stakes, simple as that.

It does feel like fans are trying to manufacture a classic when it comes to this match. I don't have a list, but I wouldn't place it anywhere near the top ten best matches in the company this year.
The match itself wasn't an "instant classic" but it did stand out and history will be kind to it.
Target Center had a legit playoff atmosphere from the moment AJ's music hit until the too sweet at the end which really helps give a match that extra boost in cred.
It went from being a match most people were looking forward to shytting on as soon as "pumpkin Balor" and "Bray in drag" were revealed as elements to
"oh shyt AJ Styles is flying across the planet for this instead"
People appreciated the shyt out of the match given the efforts it took in even putting it together and they actually gave them a lil time to work.

I am not a fan of acting like only WWE exists, but reaching for ways to put a bunch of stuff over a dope WWE match on some hipster shyt is corny too lol. I'm not saying no match could have been better, but 6 or 7 is pushing it
