President-elect Joe Biden offered Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms a position in his Cabinet, but she did not accept it, according to a statement from Rashad Taylor, Bottoms’ senior adviser.

“Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms was honored to have been offered a role in the Cabinet, which she respectfully declined,” Taylor said in a statement to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Taylor declined to say what position was offered.

Short term none, but long term (8 years)? It's clear most of the south will flip blue as America's demographics shift; just like I'd expect the midwest to be nearly completely red in 8 years. With the right circumstances and candidates maybe they can flip a state or two before 8 years. Georgia isn't the only state with favorable demographics for dems...they just need the right candidates and shot. The black turnout for Warnock was insane, and Ossoff benefited from enough white suburban voters turning out for him. Imagine where the state will be in 6 years when Ossoff runs for re-election. It could be solid blue. Sadly Warnock has to run again in 2 years, but Stacy Abrams could be on the ballot running for governor that year.

U.S. Representative James Clyburn said he talked to Joe Biden about nominating a Black woman to the Supreme Court before the South Carolina Democrat made his pivotal endorsement during the 2020 presidential primary.

Speaking on Bloomberg TV’s “Balance of Power with David Westin,” Clyburn confirmed reports he had pressed Biden on the issue in advance of the Feb. 25, 2020 South Carolina Democratic debate, when the candidate used his closing statement to promise he would nominate the court’s first Black female justice.


According to the new book “Peril,” by journalists Bob Woodward and Robert Costa, Clyburn made his endorsement conditional on Biden’s commitment to nominating a Black woman. The book says that during a break in the debate, Clyburn pushed Biden to reveal his intentions that night. Biden went on to win the primary and cement himself as the front-runner for the nomination.
