You're right. Thats why Washington DC should host the Olympics. Just imagine the good that could be done for just the HBCU'S ine the greater DMV area. These schools would use the facilities for decades in the future.
Howard, Coppin, Morgan State, Bowie, Virginia Union, Va. State would use those venues daily....
We ain't trying to drive around with Olympic traffic, this shyt is bad enough.

I wish someone did a HBO special about the abandoned Olympic locations, and interviewed the displaced residents, as well as bring back some athletes of that years games to walk through the Olympic village does and the place they played at to see it now.
Could you imagine an athlete sitting out the games in protest of the wealth inequality

Yes, but I doubt that it would be an American athlete. Probably someone who's competing for the foreign country who's hosting the olympics. It'll be one of those headlines you see for a day or two, then the media forgets it unless it's a popular athlete/team who was projected to win a gold medal in one of the popular events like track or basketball.

London's Olympic Village seems to be flourishing. I checked it out when I was there.....brand new mall, tons of housing, restaurants, etc.

I don't see why the Summer games can't be permanently held in Greece and the winter games permanently somewhere. Build world-class facilities which will last for years with minor maintenance and easy upgradability for tech advancements. Whichever bidding nation wins the hosting bid for the year, they will provide the decoration, entertainment, and culture experience of their nation for the world to see. This way, some of the smaller nations are able to be seen where otherwise they wouldn't have been able to host by building facilities. All nations that are part of the Olympic Alliance would contribute monetarily for yearly upkeep of the facilities.

It seems London did it right by incorporating existing infrastructure. They can do a lot of stuff with stadiums because there are about 5 or 6 London based EPL teams and only Arsenal had a large stadium among them. Many other countries are building a whole lot of new arenas for sports that are obviously not sustainable beyond the games. I have read that some cities , Seoul and Atlanta, managed to raise their profile through successful hosting of the games.

Pathetic. Atlanta might be the only city to leverage on the Olympics to promote growth in the city.
LA 84 and Atlanta 96 were the only profitable Olympics in the modern era.
They were mostly privately financed and the facilities were built for later use. Atlanta was actually nicknamed the "Coca Cola Olympics".
Boston recently rejected bidding for it after people found out that billions of public money would've been needed.

Because now you have to worry about the logistics needed to transport the bidding countries decoration and entertainment. I'd imagine it would logistically impossible for China to do their opening show from Greece or for Brazil to do their 48hour parade thing from Greece.

What it boils down to is a bunch of rich muhfukkas needing an opportunity to show off how rich and cultured they are. That's all it is.

Look at QATAR at the world cup. Lord knows they shouldn't being able to host a god damn thing, but they put up the funds in order to grab world attention and boost their travel economy.

doesn't generate kickbacks and extra profit for the IOC.

I wish alternative organization would make a counter olympics at a fixed location like you are suggesting.

Totally agree about the pride of some countries, but logistics is the very least of the issues. We can ship damn near anything to any corner of the earth in these modern times....
