I kept saying for months "Wiseman is a vertical spacer who will open the floor up" and nikkas acted like I was tripping:mjlol:

Playing with Dray is the best thing for him too cause Dray don't operate in the post so he'll have space down there. If you watch his few Memphis games the lane was cluttered as fukk.
And in those 3 games James still ate :wow:

oh it's going to happen. I don't really think fans understand that Wiseman is a AD/Giannis type of talent that will be groomed under Steph. I cant wait to watch him grow.

my thing now is, how are you going to over compensate defensively on Steph with Wiseman down low now? :lupe:
of course all of this is theory until we see it practiced in a game but Wiseman might shoot 60-70% if teams insist on over playing Steph.
As long as Kelly go to the corner for his 3pt attempts it will be a nice replication to Klay... Kelly hitting 40% from the corner.. As long as he understands that strength he will be legit because now he can slash or mid range it from everywhere else

This when Klay is really going to be missed.. teams having to worry about the back court and now the front all in one shot.. Straight up chaos for opposing teams :damn:
true

The cypher was so close to completion. I still get a little annoyed about the whole thing. At least Klay is chilling

# Wiseman's First Practice:
* **Thoughts on His First Practice**: "It was fun."
* Bringing energy, Having confidence in himself & his skillset, Learning from vets, Playing his role
* Thought things went as planned but just had too much energy
* Learned a lot from the vets, coaches, and himself
* Made mistakes in practice today, but got on top of them (Missed call on the defensive scheme, but the high energy he put out there made it seem like he didn't make a mistake)
* Trying his best to use his length and athleticism
* **Drills Wiseman Worked On**: "Chill drills",
* Defensive schemes, Learning as much possible (Defensive terminology), Continuity schemes
* **Difference in Energy of Practice Compared to Before** (Now He's a Part of It): Says it's the same as it was before
* Notes energy was intense, Fun atmosphere, Teammates encouraging one another and building each other up
* **How Close Wiseman Feels to 100%**: Feeling good and Putting in a lot of work past couple of days
* Coming in at 6:30 am and getting a lot of extra work done
* Studying a lot of film still (Self-proclaimed 'Student of the Game')
* Once Draymond threw Wiseman a lob and he got his first bucket, he feels like he's in the NBA now
* **Best Moment in Practice**: "Best moment was screening for Steph and he made that 3 which was dope"
# On Not Practicing Til Now:
* **On Not Being Able to Practice for the Last 10 Days**: Having patience and knowing it's all going to work out ("It's God's plan")
* Watched a lot of film
* Felt comfortable out there since he knew most of the plays anyways (from all the film sessions)
* **How Closely He's Studying the Other Big Men in the NBA** (Especially in the Western Conference): Studying a lot of film - Defensive techniques to guard them
# Watching 1st Preseason Game:
* **On Watching the 1st Preseason Game**:
* Used a lot of visualization, Visualized himself out there
* Learning a lot of the defensive schemes up close
* Understands he's going to need to use a lot of communication since he's a big man who can see everything on the floor from his vision
# Working with His New Teammates & Coaches:
* **Thoughts on Working with Draymond**: Thought it was great
* Learned a lot from him
* Draymond taught him a lot of techniques like how to guard different players
* **On Looney and Chriss**: Smart players that he's learning from (What to do in Offensive & Defensive schemes)

* **What Zaza Taught Him**: "Make sure I be the quarterback in the back"
* Make sure he keeps his head on a swivel at all time especially when he's in the paint
* Make sure to tag, Communicate early
* Make sure everybody is in the right position
* Feels comfortable doing all this since that's what his job was at Memphis
# Moving Foward:
* **Being Ready to Play Soon?**: "Most definitely"
* **On Possibly Playing in Thursday's Game**: Wait and be patient, Got to follow the protocols
* Really tough to be patient, but he's just going to keep working hard everyday and learning as much as he can
* **On Possibly Being a Starter**: "Most definitely, but I just wanna win"
* Whether he starts or not, he will work hard and put his full energy in because those are the things he can control

Warriors Talk: Steve Kerr - 12/14/20

Draymond & Wiseman's 1st Day of Practice and Timeline:
  • On Draymond & Wiseman's 1st Day of Practice: "It was so great to have those guys back out on the floor."
    • Notes Draymond is "our leader", Not having their leader the 1st week was difficult
    • Draymond made his presence felt immediately with Advice in the film session, Advice on the floor, and A whole lot of trash talking => "The energy level just skyrocketed."
    • Exciting to see the potential of Wiseman and to see his first practice with his teammates
    • Notes Wiseman's huge energy and "A couple guys came off the floor and shook their head, like, 'Wow, this guy is massive.'"
  • How Draymond & Wiseman Worked Together:
    • Draymond will help Wiseman a lot (especially in terms of Defensively & Positioning)
    • Example - Had a drill where Wiseman had to get a stop in order to take 1 trip down the floor, Draymond talked Wiseman through the possession, Teammate got a stop, Then raced down the floor where Draymond threw Wiseman a lob for a dunk (Hopefully a preview of what we hope to see in the future)
    • Hope to have Defensive Synergy and Offensive Connection (like we saw with that lob)
  • Timeline of When Draymond & Wiseman Can Play Their 1st Game: Won't play in tomorrow's game (vs Kings), Working with Rick Celebrini (Director of Sports Medicine And Performance for the Warriors)
    • Haven't been ruled out of the Season Opener (vs Nets) or Thursday's game (2nd game vs Kings)
    • Involved in some live contact drill work today
    • No scrimmage participations (Can't play in a game without playing in a scrimmage 1st)
    • Ultimately, up to Rick & the training staff to determine when they can participate in scrimmages
On Draymond:
  • How Draymond Looks Physically: "Looks really good. He looks lean. He was moving well. Got tired quickly."
    • In regards to getting tired quickly, it was to be expected especially after going really hard in their drill work (Can't match the energy you put in Drill work vs Real basketball game)
    • Overall, thought Draymond had good Body, Movement, and Energy
    • Needs to work on Rhythm and Conditioning (but got a good foundation)
On Wiseman:
  • What Impressed Kerr About Wiseman:"He made several great screens. He seems to be a very natural screen setter."
    • Couple of screen and dive to the rim opened up wide open shooters on the weak side (Twice in a row during drill work and Executed it perfectly)
    • When Wiseman Screens & Dives, opponents have to focus on him due to his speed and size BUT lead to wide open 3s as a result
    • Likes Wiseman's Energy/Enthusiasm, Feel for the game, Ability to pick up on plays very quickly
    • Excited to see him make bigger strides as he progresses further
  • Biggest challenge as the season gets started is to make sure Wiseman trains and grows at the right pace
    • Hard to do with such little time that rookies like Wiseman have due to the situation (Wiseman even more since he missed the 1st week of training camp)
On Chriss:
  • What Impressed Kerr About Marquese: "I think on how he matured"
    • Chriss have been through a lot - 1 Year at UW, Thrown in the fire at the Suns, Traded/Cut 1-2 times, Cut by the Warriors at a Kings game (near his hometown too)
    • Chriss learned How cold the NBA can be, How to deal with that, and How to persevere
    • Thought he did a really good job earning his position and play time
    • Kerr thinks Chriss has a long career ahead of him and loves to see him (Great guy, Great teammate, Always smiling)
    • Smart player who picked up what to do and runs with it
Team Energy:
  • Energy of Practices (Now that Draymond & Wiseman are back):
    • Fun group of players who are Attentive, Willing to learn & work, and Very coachable
    • Having Draymond back => More energy (Last week felt more like a classroom setting, This week felt more game-like with Draymond talking a lot on the sidelines)
    • Team needs Draymond's edge desperately
    • Overall, excited to see the balance of the Experience that the vets bring (Steph, Draymond, Bazemore) and the Energy & Willingness to Learn that the younger guys bring => Really good teaching environment
  • Is Energy Bench Something Coached or a Product of the Environment: "Naturally, when you have Steph and Draymond on your team, the bench is going to be active"
    • Steph's naturally jumps for joy whenever good things happen & Draymond is usually laughing or trash talking
    • Question prompted by the whole bench always cheering for whenever Nico was trying to make his first bucket on Saturday's game (vs Nuggets)
    • Cheering for their own team sets a really good tone for the rest of the game
    • Noted last year it was hard for the bench to get hyped up when they had the worse record in the league (Might've mentioned to have more energy a couple times)
  • Anyone Fill in the Gap While Draymond was Gone: "Kent Bazemore is becoming a leader for our team quickly" (citing his experience in the NBA and the Warriors), Natural for him to take younger guys under his wing
    • Steph Leads in a quieter way, Pulls guys aside and gives them advice
Adapting & Working in a Pandemic:
  • Thoughts on How it Feels with the Changes like the Videoconferencing Press Conference: "It's different...We're getting used to it, but hopefully we don't have to do this forever."
    • Happy there's an end to the tunnel with the vaccine but reminds us to make sure everyone does your job in the meantime by wearing a mask until everyone gets vaccinated
  • Any Adaptations Kerr Likes that Will Stick with Them Post-pandemic:
    • Do more virtual film sessions (Using RingCentral), Players no longer need to come in and can just do these kind of things online with the coaching staff (Wiseman did this a lot while he was self-quarantining)
  • Travel Protocol (For next 2 games in Sacramento):
    • Make 2 Separate Day Trips - Morning Practice at Chase, Afternoon Bus to Sacramento, Night Bus back to Chase
    • Makes it easier for testing and not have to deal with the hotel situation
  • Will the Baseball-like Schedule Stay Post-pandemic? (Staying in 1 place for a while): Helpful for travel, but for the sake of National TV and the Fans, the games are better split apart
    • Fans' Perspective - Imagine your favorite player visits your city, but gets injured. A fan won't be able to see the player play during the multiple games they play during their stay (and may not come back for the rest of the season)
    • Coaches' Perspective - Having to play your division rival (and try to win the division), but you're on the road while having your best players injured so you lose both games
  • How Scouts are Working Remotely:
    • Don't get to look at the player the same, Have to watch the games on the TV like everyone else
    • No conversations with the contacts (Friends in the org, People in the media, etc) so you can't get the information
    • Not easy, but this is the reality of the situation
Thoughts on KD:
  • Thoughts on Kevin Durant's 1st Game: Seen some highlights, but didn't see the game live (Plans to watch in full especially since they are playing against them next week)
    • Thrilled to see KD back out on the floor, Always hate to see any player go through this and Not be able to do what they love
    • Thought KD looked great and is moving well

I kept saying for months "Wiseman is a vertical spacer who will open the floor up" and nikkas acted like I was tripping:mjlol:

Playing with Dray is the best thing for him too cause Dray don't operate in the post so he'll have space down there. If you watch his few Memphis games the lane was cluttered as fukk.
Who would argue against a 7'1" with a 7'6" wingspan being a vertical spacer?

I believe the argument was more based around horizontal spacing due to the lack of shooting which will hinder that, which you've inadvertently admitted by saying the lane was "cluttered" in Memphis for him. Dray not operating in the post isn't suddenly going to negate that, as we all know, defenses dare him to shoot and help on other players.

The only way that vertical spacing will be maximized is if Dray finds his shot because none of the other bigs can shoot.

@Gil Scott-Heroin

Deni tho...

:whew:

Nice way to start your NBA career..you're not wrong, he would have fit here so nicely..but I'm happy we ended up with JDubb.
For what it's worth: I genuinely hope that Wiseman turns into a superstar because I ain't trying to see the remaining years of Steph's prime in a state of decay, even more so now given the indeterminate future of Klay.
