This is something that quite literally happens every decade or so, with the same warmed-over reasons for doing it.

From claims of explicit content that were all the rage in the 90s, to the claims of "witchcraft and wizardry" in the early 2000s, to the "devil-worshipping" and explicit content of the 80s, to the CRT and content claims of the 2020s, its all absolute bullshyt.

One thing is clear: the Right has an obsession with censorship and will stop at nothing to achieve it.

The issue is in the last iterations it wasn't really fodder to move elections. The Devil Worship shyt energized some evangelicals and naive parents but none of it was targeted specifically to win elections. Also, the national politics were sane enough back then to prevent it from doing so.

The CRT panic is the mainstream manifestation of the 'Cultural Marxism' campaign big on the far right wing in the 90s and 00s. Even the references to the Frankfurt School etc. are there. Problem is, with the current national mood I see they could lose control of this and get people acting out. They think they can control this and snuff it when it is no longer useful but I see it being dangerous as it may fuse with the Qanon and other wild movements out there and turn bad.
