The problem the people who come back will have is that they have completely lost the moral superiority card. Most of the topics and opinions in OT can be boiled down to "i am more moral and progressive than you", how can they make that claim when the mods work for Evilore and by posting on the site they are contributing to the welfare of a habitual sexual harasser. Pretty much. Social networking seems like the go to nowadays due to the wild west nature of it and the accessibility. It's sad that forums are dying because it captures a certain intimacy of conversation that goes beyond social networking. I feel a bit of a community in forums than a random fan page on Facebook. It's truly the signs of the times.

I read the exact same thing 5 years ago and 10 years ago before that.

Forums haven't gone anywhere. They just haven't grown at the pace social media has.


Just like YouTube and Facebook haven't killed the personal blog, Twitter and Instagram haven't killed the forum.

You may not get as much fresh blood, but each generation has its own thing. We had forums, the generation before us have IRC, the one after us, reddit.

Long as people have the desire to have long form communication that is presented in a threaded way, forums will exist.
