I've been thinking about this for a little over a year as I already have 3 kids and dont want anymore. I just cant get over another human being taking a knife to my johnson. 
I know a few guys that did it and say its all good but I'm not sure I can get over the fear.

I got put to sleep and got the non scalpel one. They gave me a whole degree looking certificate thing I have hanging up in my office 
obviously you need to KNOW you are ready for such a decision but I wish I had been got this done, would have eliminated so much worry over the years

yea nothing is different. You need to wait like a week for swelling to go down then wait 20-30 nuts before you are sterile
