That $40mil was immediately after he was injured (before he had time to weigh his options) and no longer available in the off-season cause AD liked how they played without him

But yeah, I get his reputation hurts him independent of the injuries... And some fans are still butthurt he signed with the Dubbs even though that ended tragically
