Grant Hill put up better numbers than Penny. He and Jason Kidd were the triple-double leaders of the NBA during that time. Grant Hill was the leading vote getting in the ASG. Grant Hill is the one they were “passing the torch” to.
Yeah NGL
Grant Hill was supposed to be the Chosen One to bring balance to the Force

Grant hill was never in the convo. :mjlol:

He was too one dimensional :manny:

This post is proof you clearly weren’t old enough to witness that era

Lol @ grant hill being one dimensional. the comparisons of best perimeter players were penny/grant/pippen when Mike retired

I loved Penny and that Orlando team, only team I rooted for other than the Bulls.

In real time, it was right there for the taking. But the comparison I remember was more so to Magic Johnson than Mike. Grant Hill was the heir apparent but Penny and the Orlando Magic were the new show time, for me at least.

Shai reminds me of Penny more than Kobe.

He’s one dimensional when you compare him to point forwards like Penny and Lebron

G Hill had like 2-3 moves but they were unstoppable :ohlawd:

I stand corrected :hubie:

He just didn’t have the passing highlight reels but he got the stats to back him up so :manny:

But Penny still had better handles and a better post game/IQ

And I think Penny being young, signed to Nike and winning quickly made him more of a “next Jordan” option

They both were talked about, but Grant Hill moreso at that time. Penny had a more “organic” following because of his flashy game, but at the same time, it was Shaq’s team, despite his popularity eclipsing Shaq. Grant had the dunking highlights, and he was a Dukie with a dad who played in the NFL and a lawyer mom (who was roommates with Hillary Clinton at one point). He had the image the NBA wanted to push.
