A few years ago...like when?

If he said "a few decades ago" it could've be misconstrued as racist in a pre-civil rights era type context.

I dont think many black where carrying luggage for whites in the 1990's doe.

:childplease:

A rookie fighting for a starting position is completely different than calling the Democratic Nominee for President a baggage handler. That D in parenthesis doesn't make you immune to ignorance.

He said a few years ago which would've been just after Obama was elected to the Senate.

Like atlbound said, if it was on some Kramer shyt with him saying a few decades ago, then you'd have a point.

A lot of staunch black democrats cannot be taken seriously about racial party problems.

Bill and Hillary stooped to tremendous lows when they were campaigning in the primaries. These two did everything but hold a Klan rally and paint themselves in black face to clown black folks and rally whites to their side.

Clinton: Obama Not Winning Over "Hard-Working Americans, White Americans"

It's easy to take that quote out of context. I'm willing to give Clinton the benefit of the doubt and say that he was referring to Obama as a "rookie" in the Democrats political machine instead of their Negro servant.

With that said however, it's bad form to compare a middle aged (Obama would still be in his early 40s "a few years ago" from the time the comment was made) black man with a Harvard Law degree and a Professor of Law to a pimply faced geek serving as a congressional page. This also wasn't the only gaffe Clinton made at that time that carried unfortunate implications.

i agree, their white privilege mentality definitely showed itself

but on the other hand im a pragamatic guy, and so is obama and clinton, so i dont have a problem letting it slide to make sure a black man wins in 2008 and 2012

IMO lack of being pragmatism about the clintons was what ruined gore in 2000, it was a bad move to try and distance himself from them, obama is playing it smart by keeping his enemies close

Zerozero please take notice. This is another example I forgot to mention.

In general, though, this has to do both with white privilege, which was the angle of attack, but also with the fact that the Clinton name is an institution in itself in American politics, and so the prospect of the Clinton machine being defeated by an upstart against all odds probably contributed a lot to Bill's comment.
