Nah..they do it out of curiosity, not because they enjoy hurting it.

I think it has more to do with practicing their skill. the same reason young kittens like to play fight so much

the thing with domestic animals is we keep them in a state of perpetual adolescence. they never have to 'grow up' and go out and find their own food. they have the urge to hunt and do these things, but they really don't understand what it's all about
