A Brooklyn mother of three was fatally shot by her abusive husband on Wednesday morning, days after posting a video of him abusing her to Facebook.
The shooting happened near Shawnee and Richlawn Avenues. The mother was 40-year-old Keaira Hudson, and she was murdered inside her SUV after dropping off her kids at school. One of the children was in the vehicle during the tragic incident.
According to WKBW, family members said that Hudson left the house that morning wearing a bulletproof vest, which she would put on before leaving. When her mother asked why she wore the vest, Hudson responded, “Because, mom, he’s going to kill me. You don’t understand.”
Hudson’s sister, Montaysha Jeter, said that the abusive husband, Adam Bennefield, rammed into the front of Hudson’s car after she rounded a corner. Next, Bennefield “got out of the car with a shotgun, shot her and pulled off.”
Buffalo police investigating the situation put out a wanted alert for Bennefield, describing him as a 5-foot-11 man weighing 160 pounds. They added that he is dangerous and may be armed.
Days before her murder, Jeter said that Hudson had tried to get help and even posted a video of him abusing her on her Facebook.
“She’s just been trying to get help,” Jeter explained. “I’ve been with her going to police stati; she’se’s been texting me, sending me videos, giving me her phone password just in case.”
Hudson even stayed at her mother’s house, afraid for her life.
“She’s been staying at my mom’s house for the last couple of days, and she was going to go to court today because he was trying to get custody,” Jeter said.
Hudson was expected in court to dispute Bennefield’s custody request, but he stole that chance from her.
Hudson’s daughter, who she shared with her ex-boyfriend, Andrew Hodge, was in the car when she was murdered. Hodge told WKBW that the situation shouldn’t have happened.
“I know he was arrested a couple of days ago for domestic violence,” Hodge said.
He stated that Hudson sought help and even asked those close to her about what she should do to ensure her family’s safety.
“She would call and ask questions saying ‘What should I do?’ When the video was posted on Facebook, everybody saw it,” he stated. “Everybody was trying to help her, and this is what happens.”

Another thing to note is that this isn’t Bennefield’s first abuse experience. In 2000, he rammed into an ex-girlfriend’s vehicle while driving on Route 33 and forced her and her passenger to get into his car at gunpoint, leading the police on a high-speed chase.
