When the game started with two assists to KP, I thought two things...His callout for ball movement actually had impact and that the Heat without Whiteside are way too small for our guys. Then the injury left me in a stupor for like 15 minutes but what snapped me back was this dude Kanter abusing the Heat mini-men on the boards and inside. I hate on dude a lot but he was a catalyst and really took advantage of the smaller opposition at a time when the team needed a boost. He was smacking the floorboards and doing anything to energize a team that has been lifeless for two weeks. Overall, I'm not making too much of a win over a team that played as bad as the Heat though. The defense from the Knicks was ripe for exploitation by more a talented team, especially the notoriously bad three point defense. How much of the offensive play was a merit to Knicks over the Heat just being bad, I'm not sure but I doubt there will be another game where all three of Jack, Sessions and Baker get burn AND look like playmakers at the same time. Not tryna hate, this was a nice win but I'm still shaky off the last handful of performances.

KP: He was poised for a big game with Justise Winslow guarding his waist...but got hurt. It looked bad, I don't mind them resting him instead of rushing him back off of that one but sounds like he may be ready after the long break.

Kanter: And the game ball goes to...22 and 14 in 25 mins plus he found himself switched onto Waiters multiple times and actually held his own. He controlled the boards like that one kid who got left back in the 5th grade and hit puberty before his peers...just too big. Adebayo looked like an undersized, overwhelmed rookie against dude. I laughed when they spent time talking about the staff telling Kanter how to pick his kickout targets in a game where there was literally no reason for Kanter to pass. He big brother'd the entire Heat roster and injected life into a team that needed it. Really nice comeback game and the enthusiasm was clearly contagious.

Lee: Mr. Reliable lost a bit of his aggression last debacle out but it was back here. 17 pts (on just 9 attempts), 5 boards, 2 asts, 3 stls and a block in 28 minutes. Kanter stole the show but Lee was the second best player on the floor all night. Dude has been an impact player all year, if we're in the playoffs he'll be a key reason and if we're tanking, he's gotta go. Describing his play is redundant at this point, you know what you're getting. Instead I'll just focus on the fact that he's driving really well this year and a lot of it comes down to that floater. Dude has really perfected it and it's impossible to stop if he gets even a step on his man.

THJ: On a night when the whole team seemed to play well, he was conspicuously quiet. Not bad...just quiet. 12 pts, 2 asts to 2 TOs no boards and 5/11 shooting 1/4 from three. You could attribute a chunk of that to other guys getting the numbers up but when KP went down, I expected Timmy to be the next man up so I'm a bit disappointed that our biggest gunslinger seemed more conservative instead of aggressive in KP's absence.

Jack: 2 pts, 7 asts, 3 boards in 24 minutes. Both he and Sessions did a lot of switching after the Heat got open looks early and it did improve things but left our bigs in isolation on Waiters and Dragic at times. That's dangerous to try on most nights but worked out. He was a playmaker though and that's what we need. Break down the D and make a smart pass. Can't ask for much more.

Doug: Doug was 6/7 and never even attempted a three. Teams are really denying him open looks from three but that's making him a dangerous cutter and an easy assist target all night. 12, 2 boards, 1 ast in 29 minutes where his off ball movement was clear as day. His baseline dunk later in the game was NASTY. Kid's more athletic than you'd suspect, both running hard and leaping which is scary when he demands so much gravity as a shooter.

Beas: Got 19 minutes in the absence of KP and did a commendable job. 6 pts, 7 boards and a block with respectable D most of the night. He was a turnover machine, 4 TO's but I really feel the good outweighed the bad...help defense was nice to see and the staying focused all of his minutes made the TO's less painful.

KOQ: This was MUCH closer to the KOQ we had for the first 10 games or so of the season. He was locked in on boards, TO's came on aggressive decisions which I can respect because he was looking to attack either passing or positioning wise and he was effective when he looked to score. 9 pts, 7 boards, 1 ast, 1 stl but 3 TO's in just 14 minutes! Dude was EATING off the undersized Heat and when he has that intensity in his game it really makes a difference. If only he could be THIS guy every night, he'd be an absolute stud.

Lance: One of his better all around games. 8 pts, 4 boards, 2 asts. He got to the line, hit a nail in the coffin three, grabbed some boards and played his usual brand of high energy defense. Usually he frustrates me after 15 minutes but his 21 minutes were really solid in this one. No complaints.

Ramon: 8 pts, 6 asts in 24 minutes. 3/9 isn't a pretty number but it came mainly on him slashing hard and that created follow up opportunities for our bigs. He had nice rapport with Willy on the PnR (we know who the third string practice squad PG and C are) which led to a lot of nice, simple assists. Like Jack, he switched a lot which could be a problem against better backcourts but this was a good showing for a guy who needed one.

Willy: I mentioned last game breakdown that Willy looked like he found his rhythm in the last fourth quarter but it was too little, too late. Luckily this was a blowout so he got 9 minutes and like every other big man, he absolutely feasted on the Heat's lack of competent big men. 8 pts (4/5), 8 boards, 1 ast and 2 blocks in just 9 minutes...he was a more effective screener, got easy dunks, couldn't be kept off the boards and boy was his second block a beauty of a defensive play against a face up drive. He made the most of his minutes for the first time all year but I repeat, it's too little, too late. It was nice to see him remind people that he's capable of this though, seems like a lot of heads forgot just how well he was playing after Noah went down last year.

Baker: 2 pts, 3 asts, 2 boards and 2 stls in 9 minutes for Baker. Like Sessions, he also had good rapport with Willy. He could develop into a nice utility type or rotation guy and I'd love to see him push Jack and Sessions off the court so we could have high effort defense chasing PG's all night...but that remains to be seen because he's not as quick as Jack or Sessions.

Dotson: 2 for 4 for 5 points in 6 mins. As usual it was too little time to glean a ton but he's a willing shooter and he has a good jumper which did show up even in the limited minutes.

Jeff: Did a nice job getting everyone out there. He rode Kanter's energy after KP went down which was wise and he split Beasley and Lance's replacement time for KP well. I'm guessing that he told the older PG's to switch more as an adjustment but won't speculate too hard, whoever's choice that was it worked. Not much more to say because the Heat were flat out bad so there weren't many decisions that felt crucial or all that important. We blew these dudes out which was nice and he spread the minutes well, that's a good job.

Damn Kanter still got haters like that?

Dude has "emerged" this season and he's only 25. Plays hard every night, takes pressure off KP. What the fukk y'all want him to do?

It's KOQ who needs to get shipped outta here.
Kanter has always been a solid player.

Is his defense bad? Yeah he could improve, but I always followed him because of the BS that blocked him from coming to UK. I am glad we made the trade solely because of his heart and you know he isn't going to back down. That is extremely important on a squad and it is showing.

Means more than a dude shooting 39% his last 5 games that's for damn sure.

Atleast he plays with some effort and acts like he wants to be here. I rather have Willy develop but kanter makes a strong case

He definitely wants to be in NYC. He's playing like his life is on the line. :mjlol:

But he's trying to hard to prove himself and win over Knicks fans with all the off the court stuff. I don't think its good for the team in the long run.:manny:

I've seen too many players crumble under the bright lights of NY to fault a dude for embracing that shyt and wanting the acceptance of the fans. The best player on a team isn't always, I could almost say usually isn't, the vocal/emotional leader. KP isn't shy but he's more of a Melo, lead by example type. Every team needs a dude like Kanter. His offense, rebounding, and improved passing doesn't hurt either:manny:

Breh... last year, nikkas were playing throw the water bottle games on the bench while we were getting our backs blown out on some porno shyt.

His shyt talk and attittude works as a player for the NY Knicks.

Great game doggies. I was at the game tonight, so I thought I pushed the ultimate curse when it looked like KP broke his ankle. But the basketball gods was forgiving and we came through with a nice dominant win. Plus we had a great third quarter!

Yo I was in the building, and ALSO thought I'd brought the hex. :palm:

Glad we dodged the bullet.

Yea hopefully Kanter is gone. He's annoying and thinks the Knicks are "his" team :francis:

Nah. He plays hard for them. He's a weapon when deployed correctly. Dude is playing the best basketball of his career. I don't love his playing style, and I think the NBA is moving away from it -- but he's better now than he was ever in OKC or Utah. He can stay.

Great breakdown as always -- I'd add that Beasley looks actively lost on the court in real time. When you're watching the game in person, he doesn't know where to rotate on defense, he's constantly getting moved around by the guards so he's in position for the offensive sets, and he can't make a decision on the fly. Dude is an awful nba player - but such a talent, that he somehow gets by. It's crazy.

The heat without Whiteside is one of the worst rosters in basketball.

I actually like Kanter, and he’s doing a lot to help this team win. He also knows this is KP’s team but he’s trying to be the heart of the team. I just don’t want to pay him and if we can get something for him that we actually need (a good 3 and d wing) I’ll do that in a heartbeat.

well. the original question is how Bagley would fit in with Kanter being there. I guess hes ok off the bench. but Im telling you Kanter isnt the key to the knicks success long term. hes just a spark at the moment. nobody was thrilled to have him when the trade went down.
