This isnt factual, although black panthers/leopards are rarer in Africa then they are in India, its in the Savannahs of Africa were they are rarer aka the grasslands where they have to compete with Lions, Hyenas, Cheetahs and Wild Dogs for hunting grounds. Having a black coat in the savannah isnt advantageous because they would stand out more easily. India is mostly subtropical rainforest and the parts of Africa were black panthers are found like the Congo for example there are many examples of melanistic leopards within the last 100 years
