True, I was going to add IR marriage has always been way higher in the military due to proximity, travel, and the need for a spouse committed to that life, etc.
A few of the first few BW I ever knew married to WM, one or both had a military connection. The late Senator McCain has a black daughter-in-law. I would bet 50%+ of the Gen X Blasian population has military roots as well as almost all the Afro-German people I met in life.

Yep you are sure right. Military has higher interrracial marriages compared to the general population. Whether its war brides...(many mixed black kids who had black fathers and were born in 40s and 50s to war bride mothers) or just meeting folks in the military or being stationed in a foreign country and just dating the locals.
Like you said its cause folks work next to each other and are overseas in towns with folks that don't look like them. Plus the military tries to have a family motto as in everyone who serves is your fellow family member.

Navy flight school is not easy. There is so much to do to ensure you come out component and alive. There is also another mental/emotional element which comes from being in a space like this, surrounded 99% of the time by folks who dont look like you...though her time at the Academy likely conditioned her well to function throughout her training.
Still, the fact this young lady came thru all of that and is getting her wings now is an accomplishment, no matter how you slice it.
As for her selection of husband, while I do not like to paint with a broad brush, I'll simply say, as she is an Academy grad, I'm just really not too surprised.
