Tabiti-Fayer, Tete-Aloyan Eyed For October 13, Yekaterinburg

By Luke Furman

The quarterfinal battle of the World Boxing Super Series (WBSS), between cruiserweight contenders Ruslan Fayfer of Russia and Andrew Tabiti of the United States, is scheduled for October 13 in Yekaterinburg - according to the Secretary General of the Russian Boxing Federation Umar Kremlev.

Earlier it was announced that on October 13 in Yekaterinburg, another quarter-final of WBSS - at bantamweight - will see unbeaten Russian Olympian Mikhael Aloyan challenge WBO champion Zolani Tete of South Africa.

"We are planning that Fayfer will see action on October 13 (in Yekaterinburg), we are waiting for the WBSS to announce it. As far as Maxim Vlasov (who faces Krzysztof Glovatsky), we can not speak on that specifically," said Kremlev to Vasily Konov.

Fayfer, during his time in the professional ring, has won 23 wins with no defeats and has won 16 of his fights by knockout, and Tabiti has an unbeaten record 16 wins and 13 knockouts - and he is promoted by Floyd Mayweather.

Fayfer (who is the number 4 seed) was in action back in June, when he knocked out Emmanuel Danso in the fourth round in Krasnodar.

And Tabiti saw action in May, when he scored a knockout win over world title challenger Lateef Kayode in six rounds in Las Vegas.

The first World Boxing Super Series cruiserweight tournament was won by Oleksandr Usyk in July, when he dominated Murat Gassiev to unify the WBO, WBC, WBA, IBF titles.

The single-elimination tournament for the Muhammad Ali Trophy is set to take place from October 2018 until summer 2019, with eight fighters competing. Besides Tabiti-Fayfer, following match-ups have been announced for the quarter-finals:

Burnett-Donaire, Taylor-Martin - WBSS Eyeing UK Doubleheader

By Elliot Foster

Ryan Burnett is likely to have his next fight away from Belfast.

The WBA Super world bantamweight champion will come up against Nonito Donaire in the World Boxing Super Series quarter-final.

Burnett, a previous owner of the IBF belt which is now held by fellow tournament participant Emmanuel Rodriguez, was pitted against the Filipino at the gala draw in Moscow, Russia in July.

Initially, it was indicated that the fight would take place at the end of this month at the SSE Arena in Burnett's home city.

But Boxing Scene understands that the Comosa AG group, which heads the WBSS, is planning a UK doubleheader.

Josh Taylor, the WBC super-lightweight number one contender, will face undefeated American Ryan Martin in his quarter-final of the multi-million-dollar tournament, with the fight likely to take place on November 3 at the SSE Hydro Arena in Glasgow, Scotland.

Burnett and Taylor have shared a card before, with both appearing in support slots on the Carl Frampton vs. Scott Quigg pay-per-view super bantamweight unification showdown in Manchester back in February 2016.

Though the date and venue for the doubleheader have been rumoured, there has been no official confirmation at this stage and further details are expected to be revealed in due course.
