Just curious...when and why did Paul Heyman replace Kang Lawler on the Commentary

When WWE fired The Kat (Lawler's wife at the time) Lawler left with her. I guess they decided to make Heyman a commentator since the Invasion storyline was going on and he would stan for The Alliance while JR would root for WWE
