Yes, the purpose of a degree is largely to avoid getting your resume thrown out. I don't think anybody would dispute that.

But again, if it wasn't that it would just be something else. I'm not sure what alternative you're advocating for. :manny:
:palm:

i literally haven't advocated for anything in here...:gucci:

i've argued against the idea college = equipped for a job

but to this point since you keep bringing it up, there were entire generations that got jobs without degrees...apparently us humans were able to figure out how to hire people without "BA/BS" next to their name for hundreds of years :ohhh:

and in 2022, you literally can get certs in almost every business function - pair that with internships/co-ops, that person is just as or more value than someone from West Virginia State with a degree in English.

So what would you like to see? Fewer people getting degrees? Employers being pushed to hire more people without degrees? Fewer college admissions?

Obviously there are a lot of jobs requiring a degree that could be done by someone without one, nobody disputes that, but I'm not sure what you want employers/colleges to do differently. There are only so many office jobs to go around, so if employers shouldn't care about education then they would have to filter resumes in some other way. I just want to know what the alternative is if you find this to be an issue.

Man people need to learn about job careers nobody talks about. You can get a job doing non destructive testing and make over 100k according to what part of the country you’re in. Hell in small ass SC I know plenty of people making around 80k with just a high school diploma.

Ironically, networking is one of the biggest gains from college.

Well technically don’t college graduates make more on average than high school graduates, so this shouldn’t be a surprise

This says more about work being devalued, but requirements for it are going up. We know people earn more going to school, but if you insuating collective issues are self-made. you gotta put that college degree to work.

Having a degree and making money has no correlation in this country.. It’s mofos with PHD’s out there working in a supermarket

It's on average, you do better than a non-degree haver. But wages are not growing in rate compared to expenses, so you can choose between

Lowerpay & no debt
OR
Slightly higher pay or a chance of very high pay and a lot of debt.

Jobs that are around higher pay is Tech, and currently with a lot of effort & luck, you can get it.

Thats an exception and not a rule. Most high paying jobs will require a degree or a shyt ton of experience that you probably wont get without a degree anyway.
