People that make good movies are telling us what movies they really like and might be worth watching and it's good starting point if you're getting into movies, watching old movies that have been nominated. I've watched dozens of great movies because they have gotten a nom that I hadn't even heard about before like In the Heat of the Night, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, Anatomy of a Murder, Twelve O'Clock High, Witness for the Prosecution, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Judgment at Nuremberg, The Conversation, Lenny, The Towering Inferno, Network, The Verdict, Mississippi Burning etc.

It's all well and, but why does there taste and opinions matter, and hold so much weight in the industry.
Award shows goes completely against what art is about, art is subjective. There is no right or wrong, or good or bad. It's all about what moves you.
But hey let the farce continue, everyone likes holding a shiny trophy, and being told they are the best.
But for me award shows are all about the people putting it on, making themselves feel important
And what moves a bunch of elitist snobs, shouldn't be the end all and be all, off and industry.
Life of Pi should win best picture, everything else doesn't matter to me. Argo was good but I think it's being overrated. But I've only seen it once.
