I think a large part of the reason why Richard Sherman's post-NFC championship sideline interview drew so much bizarre outrage and cism was the image of a black man acting loud and aggressive next to a nervous and intimidated-looking Erin Andrews. It set off a collective poking of white amygdalas.

Same thing I noticed, I wondered how often this frequently occurred, if at all. I'm willing to bet even presently black male, white female rapes are relatively low or exaggerated...

Large part? That's exactly what it was I think. She didn't help by looking and sounding afraid. So you already have the racism in the blood, and know you see a white woman afraid and it's pretty much throwing gasoline on the fire.

Im always reminded of the book 'A Glorious Disaster: Barry Goldwater's Presidential Campaign and the Origins of the Conservative Movement' . In it, the author writes about how Goldwater held massive political rallies in southern football stadiums, where in front of the stage he would have over 1,000 southern belles wearing all white gowns and holding white lilacs while he screeched about "freedom to associate", and "states rights".

The complete thrust of his campaign was threatening whites with miscegenation, in order to convince them to abandon the popular new deal programs that literally saved their asses. Thus the modern GOP plan of using racial fears and resentment in order to extract white middle and lower classes of their dignity and wealth was born. Quite sad really, but a sucker is born every minute

sad part about the sherman thing, she wasn't intimidated @ all. she had more of a face when she asked "who's talking about you?"
