This was a surprisingly good show.
The big thing NXT UK suffers from at the moment is lack of star power, but they seem to be going about building it in positive ways and if the crowd's anything to go by a fair few are starting to get over. I was really not sold on Walter first time I saw him, but can't deny the dude has main event presence and UK crowds LOVE to hate him.
Noam Dar vs Travis Banks - didn't grab me... entertaining enough action, but it didn't get over. Noam Dar hasn't really impressed me anywhere yet.
Cesato vs Ilja Dragunov - this set the show off properly. Never seen Ilja before but I want to see a LOT more of him. Intensity, energy, decent skills... and Jesus does he sell. That last uppercut from Cesaro looked like straight up Mortal Kombat shyt. He reminds me of Ziggler if Ziggler was able to get himself in any way over. Only negative on this one was the crowd counting Cesaro's swings - which ALWAYS pissed me off though. That was a fun spot, but it was no way 40. I hope BoJo is going to hire some more maths teachers in South Wales.
Coffey/Mastiff LMS - HOSS FIGHT. Turnbuckle spot was confusingly early, but I guess they wanted it to be a surprise and sell the amount of weight flying around the ring - whole thing worked well tbh and gave them plenty of reason to tour the arena committing acts of brutality. Finish was excellent - always expect the WWE-cop-out end to a LMS match where someone gets buried/trapped, but that was a great finish... even in a match with no rules, they managed to finish with some true heeling worked in. Great match, great booking.
Tag Triple Threat - UK Tag Championship - saw the result coming a mile off with it being in Cardiff and them taking the underdog route into the match, but it did what it had to. Some great spots and Andrews/Morgan-Webster were so fukking over. Glad to see Andrews get a strap.
Toni Storm/Kay Lee Ray Women's UK Championship - ehhhh. This was totally over with me from the buildup and I've wanted the strap off Toni for a while, but the match just didn't quite hit right with me. Watched it a second time because I lost concentration the first and I lost concentration second time around too. I know I'm in the minority with this, but Toni is fukking trash outside of technicals/looks to me... don't buy her acting, her expressions or her mic work... she comes across like a spoilt kid rather than a chippy underdog. Needed a bit more savagery from Kay Lee to really sell her as heel.
Walter/Tyler Bate - Men's UK Championship - fukking YES. From Walter's entrance on, this was impossible to look away from. Tyler is a fukking star - I really hope they can work out how to market him properly to bigger markets, because apart from size, that kid has it ALL as a top-tier babyface. My only complaint was too many false finishes, but equally I kept wanting more and more spots from them and I really wouldn't be mad at a return bout. Trent Severn and Pete Dunne coming out at the end coincided with my next-door neighbour chopping all the onions in his apartment.
I think I might start watching the weekly more regularly - this is actually pretty high quality shyt at times.
